Weeding of sugarcane is the greatest challenge to farmers in western Kenya. Even though a farmer may be advanced cash to weed, the money may go into other uses apart from the intended weeding. Secondly, even though the farmer may use the cash to weed by manual labour, the quality of the weeding is very poor hence the repeated operation.
