Masinga dam is resort is in a serene location in Machakos county. The food and ammenities are average with nothing much to talk about.
The rooms are dingy, beddings threadbare. The place desperately needs renovation. A very small swimming pool and the meals are below average. The only redeeming thing is the serenity.
The road leading to the resort is finally being fixed. But as of right now, there's still about 5kms left. If you're on a motorcycle, when it rains, that section can be a challenge. So best to call the lodge before going there to ascertain the state of the road.
The resort itself is alright. Old decor but clean. The waitress we found was lazy, forgetful and full of an attitude. Taking forever to bring even drinks and we were the only ones there.
They don't have a generator because we had gone to the dam and when we came back there was no electricity so we ate cold food. One order was wrong, the chicken was hard.
Other ladies, at the reception and elsewhere were quite helpful and more agreeable than the waitress.
I wouldn't be in a rush to go back there.
It is an excellent place for a getaway. But the service needs to improve in times of meal timeliness.
So much potential. Very little effort. It could work for a large group. Best thing is the bar and of course, the dam.
Nice place to escape the hustle and bustle of Nairobi. Accessible with a saloon car as well
A nice place to relax and enjoy beautiful views of the dam. It's quite a drive from the main road because of the maram road. It has indoor restaurant but you can also sit outside in the garden. Swimming pool is available with guard so it is safe for children. The food is okay, really enjoyed the local chicken and potatoes, very good and generous serving. Food took about 45 minutes to prepare, so be ready to wait. From here you can also go to the dam which is just a few metres away. It is free to visit the dam and the resort can assist you with a receipt which is free of charge but important because the guard will ask you to for one when you go to the dam. Boat rides are available to take you around the dam for a fee of 500 per person.
We went to the masinga dam resort hoping to have lunch. Only to be told they had no potatoes. Then the manager in the reception said the potatoes are there but it will take 50 minutes to prepare fries! We left very disappointed!
A place tostay in & very unique .
I still don’t understand the concept behind tented rooms. They are expensive to maintain and do not impress. There are plenty of other low cost material to choose from if you want to make an impressive low cost room, materials that will last longer. Ended up staying in one of those “tented rooms,” and it was terrible. Tent was torn and with mounds growing everywhere. Besides, you can hear everything going on in the nearby tents. There was a notorious phone caller who was loud and talked forever. There is no way to contain sounds in this tented rooms and people lack etiquette.
Peaceful, quiet, lovely views and helpful staff..
A great and serene place for out door event
Great n relaxing atmosphere in the bush. Great view of Masinga dam. Very hospitable
The sundowner and sunrise is wonderful
I like it very much
Good place to stay
The site is good but the resort services very very poor. We ordered for a full chicken bt. It come with some parts missing n nt fully cooked. The experience was the worst
This place is beautiful. Perfect getaway from the city, and nice for camping too. The dam has scenic views too
The rooms are okay, but i did not like their tents because they have tiny metallic beds and shared bathrooms. Most of the time guys visited this place is when there is the rally and then you cannot find the normal rooms, because they are all booked for the participants of the rally, so I feel like they should build more rooms. The place can get uncomfortably hot during the day but there is a swimming pool to cool off. The road to the resort is also very bad and requires an off-road car.
Loved the place. If you like camping; this is the place to be!
nice place to be..kwitu musyi pap!
To call the service poor is an understatement. The staff is not friendly and not accomodative( my son was thirsty when we walked in, I asked a waitress for water, this was after waiting for 15 minutes without attendance and having to walk towards the kitchen area, we eventually had to walk to the bar to get the water) it's now 1hr 40minutes since we made our order and we are yet to sight the food. When the drinks came he gave us the opener to open our own drinks. They don't even deserve one star.
I have mixed feelings about this place. Stayed in the tent place and it was absolutely not good as opposed to seeing the room areas which looked okay. But the view of Masinga was beautiful
