Loved the atmosphere of the place. Although the baths are about 2 min from the ryokan, once you’re in the bath it’s nice and cozy. In case you’re cold, you can wear a jacket and keep it in the changing room. I tried the mixed baths where women wear a brown dress and men use a small towel to cover their privates and the women’s only bath. Even if you go as a couple, I would highly recommend for women to go to the women’s only bath as it has an amazing view and the water temperature was ideal for winter. The food was a set nabe with buffet and plenty; breakfast was the same. On request, they provided a pescatarian version for me. In spite of booking a smoking room, it did not smell much which was brilliant.

Older buildings but the location and views are absolutely beautiful. The onsen and hospitality are top notch. We were able to take their courtesy shuttle from the nearby train stations on the way in/out. Communication was no issue as it seemed like most staff had good English.

The location is breathtaking (particularly in autumn apparently). The walk to the outside baths is as though one is walking through an enchanted Japanese garden with a river rushing through it, and you can take in all this beautiful scenery as you relax in the huge outside onsens (many of which are coed). The building interior is also very beautiful, traditional Japanese, mostly natural wood.

Extremely scenic outdoor onsen with mixed baths. The restaurant food is also pretty good. While the bath has a strong sulfur smell, it doesn't linger on you after you dry off.

Spent a lovely night here. The baths themselves are amazing. Beautifully located on the river, there are three mixed baths and one women only bath. They are open 24/7 which is perfect for a late night dip. The water is extremely (!) hot.

The rooms are traditional, with tatami mattresses for sleeping and low chairs and table.

The cheap rooms (where we stayed) were stuffy and fairly old. Unfortunately, there are a ton of bugs all around so opening the window wasn't really an option.

Dinner and breakfast were buffet style with tons of options. The food wasn't super good, but the selection was great.

Great outdoor co-ed and female only onsen (hot spring). The public bathhouse is clean with an indoor onsen. The room is little outdated and could be cleaned more in detail. Traditional dinner and buffet breakfast is delicious!

Would give this place 100stars if I could. They give you a yukata to wear the whole time. The ceilings and door jams are a little low for foreigners, but you come here for the onsens and they are amazing. Bus pickup from the train station was great. Dinner and breakfast was an all you can eat buffet and had a great selection. Staff are all very helpful and friendly.

One of the best outdoor hot spring in Japan. Awesome view. Staff was friendly and able to communicate in English. Room was a bit old but very comfortable and traditional Japanese style.

Beautiful hot spring resort nestled in the mountains. Traditional style, but had all the modern amenities any traveler would need. Staff was very accommodating for travelers, helped us enjoy our dinner in style and comfort. Highly recommended visiting in late winter if you're looking for snow!

Was a wonderful experience, the food was traditional and delicious. I would recommend getting the dinner option when staying here. The beds are okay as far as comfort goes. The pillows are like bean bags, tolerable but not super comfortable. 4 stars because of the beds. Everything else was great.
