Time to sell your soul and fly to kyoto to try this. Not that they do anything out of the orginary, but they make oridinary things taste special.

This is a restaurant in Kyoto, Japan. You might think, why am I recommending an Italian restaurant in Kyoto, right? But it's just that good. The entrance in itself is something to talk about. Once you enter the gate, you walk through a Japanese garden towards a dimmed light where the restaurant is. The interior is decorated with wood and is lightly dimmed so it has a very warm and welcoming feeling. The service is very high quality. The course that is offered is as follow: 4000 yen course, 5000 yen course (with ingredients from Kyoto), 9000 yen course (with ingredients from all around Japan). I chose the 5000 yen course and the meal was worth more than the price. Every dish was delicious and flavors were well balanced and delicately plated. All the staff are able to speak English so you don't need to worry if you can't speak Japanese. Also, the wine menu had a variety of wines all at a reasonable price. Overall, it is a well balanced restaurant. Apparently, they have another location in Kobe inside a restaurant, but you wouldn't be able to experience the grand entrance if you go there! If you're ever in Kyoto, I definitely recommend this restaurant. It's hard to get reservations so I would recommend to make it at least one week in advance, especially if you're looking to reserve during the busy hours from 6pm to 7pm. I made mine at 8pm, one week in advance.

Beautiful place inside & out. They are flexible and have options & suggestions for vegetarians. The wine selection & the food is outstanding! This is one of my favorite restaurants in Kyoto.

We simply loved that place, European food but very nicely done and served. The people are very kind
Possibility to walk around in the backyard. It's a lovely, romantic, quite and affordable restaurant.

Some restaurants are five star because they're comfortable and familiar or delicious and reasonably priced. The Sodoh was five star because it was an amazing experience from start to finish.

The service of the staff was top notch.
We were greeted frequently by name and escorted to a lovely table by the garden windows. My partner is allergic to the rennet in many cheeses, and they were easily able to accommodate this without any doubt, even on the risotto (which I assumed would be impossible). The English of the staff who served us was excellent. We had two waiters who were lovely.

We all ordered The Sodoh course. Each dish was delightful, but the surprising standout was the fried zucchini. I also loved the tender risotto tart they served for dessert. We were well-filled and happy when the meal ended. The restaurant helped us secure a taxi before we left and ended our night as smoothly as we could have imagined. Wonderful!

Loved it. Its expensive but the second floor tatami setting makes up for it. Gets my recommendation.

I loved this restaurant. The staff standing in front of its gate kindly escorted us to the front. The price of their courses ranges from 4,000 to about 10,000, which is reasonable. All thee meals are excellent and you can enjoy the convivial atmosphere. I wanna visit again.

I was a little skeptical of an Italian restaurant in Japan with a Japanese twist but I have to say I was pleasantly surprised, and I am a tough crowd as have been to many Italian restaurants, most of which were in Italy. The primi pastas were really good and the secondis or mains were fine. The focaccia bread and the tiramisu were impressive too. The wine list was accessible and focused on Italian wines. Setting is lovely and the staff were helpful and attentive, although when we arrived we were made to wait for 15mins in the entrance hall area with no explanation which wasn't a great start. Thankfully they made up for it over dinner. Definitely a nice change from the local cuisine but offering something different than your normal Italian although on the expensive side a bit so be prepared for that.

One of the best wedding venues you'll find in Kyoto. Peaceful garden, top-of-the-line cuisine, and views adorned with Yasaka-to.
