Traditional hotel with hot waters in a small town. Lovelly, romantic and ultra relaxing! Totally worth it!
    Amazing japanese traditional dinner!
The website and reservations are a little confusing online, but everything went well!

This is a mixed bath, if you're not up to catching the occasional glimpse of the last turkey in the shop, or some incredibly hot nude chick, this might not be the place for you.
Anyway, you don't have to stay here to be able to enjoy the Hot Spring Baths. An entry ticket to the baths is ¥1000 and the baths are open to visitors from early morning until 5:30pm. The setting really is idyllic and there's never a bad time to go. The contrast between summer and winter is incredible and both are equally stunning. NOTE: If you drive to this place in winter, you WILL need snow tyres or chains. The weather can change in minutes up here and it's not unusual to leave the Onsen only to discover that 15cm of snow has fallen while you were relaxing away. You could end up having an expensive unplanned stay.

As others have mentioned, they would give a 5 star review, as would I, were it not for the caged bears along the path to the baths. The management claims that these were orphaned bear cubs that were rescued from the wild. An unlikely tale. Hopefully they'll get the picture someday and do away with the whole sorry state of affairs.

Great welcome, staff Very kind and helpful. Here you buy an "as it was" experience,so don't look for modernity in furniture or amenities..look for the beauty of the place and nature. The dinner is served in your room early evening (6-7pm), it's a great jap experience (not so plentiful but again, so is used here) and let you time to enjoy the baths during the night.
Yes, they keep some bears in cage, you might not like that but don't forget where you are..you have also hunters here around..
The experience is worth it at all the 1h trip from Tokyo and the price (absolutely not cheap).

We had such a great time here! The location is completely surreal. You can reach the public onzen with a little wooden bridge that crosses the river. We had a room in the oldest building (30's) it was huge and at we would hear the river and the surrounding nature, it was very calming. The meals that where included where delicious. I would give it 5stars, but there are some bears in tiny cages in the backyard, this was a little heartbreaking.
