  Creepy doesn't even begin to describe this remote temple. Surreal, mystical, hair-raising This was by far the weirdest temple we visited. It was definitely worth the drive up, but I'll think twice before visiting this place at night.

  九州西国三十三観音霊場　第十四番札所
  御朱印あり　曹洞宗
  宮本武蔵縁の寺。
  五百羅漢や霊厳洞の見学には拝観料が必要だが、お参りだけなら無料のようす。

  雲巌禅寺の境内に静かに佇む五百羅漢と呼ばれる石仏群。
  安永８年（１７７９）に熊本の商人・淵田屋儀平が２４年の年月をかけて肥後の石工に彫らせたもの。
  五百羅漢の奥には、宮本武蔵が「五輪書」を著したいわゆる霊巌洞がある。
