    恐山という単独峰はありません。宇曽利湖（カルデラ湖）を中心とする外輪山（釜臥山（最高峰）、大尽山、少尽山、北国山、屏風山、剣の山、地蔵山、鶏頭山の8峰）の総称を恐山といいます。

    大湊線の下北駅（JR東日本の本州最北端の駅）から下北交通バス恐山線で約40分。開山時のみ運行で1日4往復。7月の大祭典、10月の秋祭典のときは増発あり。
