Nice view but be prepared to climb steep stairs. otherwise take a taxi which cost about 1000 yen from the train station.

Great view from the steep hillside of the water and Seto Sea islands and one shopping arcade town.
Old hotel was noisy (finally turned off the ceiling exhaust which helped - but other noises kept coming from other units) - my partner complained this was the only hotel in ten we've stayed at this trip where she couldn't sleep.
Worst was the bathroom which shower flooded the floor - first glance was a panel under the vanity sink falling out about 40mm - scary dark behind that - then the shower curtain was too narrow - about 4' when it needed to be 5' wide - and water ran around the bath top edge and onto the floor at both ends - until we worked out to put the two small handtowels on each end corner with a tail into the bath to direct the overflow - we wrung out the sopping wet floor towel - urg.
Didn't try the Thai food so can't comment on that.
Driving up at night in the rain was scary dark narrow hard to see roads - so plan to avoid that.
The best thing about the hotel was the local born Japanese girl at the front desk - she was friendly, helpful and delightful !response / report this review -

We had a lovely stay. The rooms are very basic, somewhat rustic, but well worth the $60 or so. The views are one of a kind. The staff is very accommodating and we had no problems. If you are able bodied and the weather is cooperating, hike to it from the train station. It is a unique experience and will be forever imprinted in your life.

Great views of city. Very difficult walk up. I'd suggest taking a cab. Very friendly staff.

I had to book this particular hotel as most of other ones were already full due to the sakura season. The experience left a lot to be desired, to say the least.
The hotel is dated, and unlike some, this one has not aged well at all. Bedside lamp was ripped all over, table was falling apart and bathroom has seen better days.
Opening times are highly inconvenient, with hotel closing at midnight and check in only from 3pm. On my second check in (yes, I stayed there twice) I arrived around 1pm only to find the door shut. After ringing the bell an older lady opened the door for me with a huge grimace on her face repeating over and over "three o'clock". I asked politely if I can just leave my bag as the access is a steep hike and after some consideration she did let me in. She did rush me, however. I wanted to get my camera out to take with me with her standing over my head repeating constantly the word "time". As a result I forgot to grab couple of things as I went to the city center. Very frustrating and not what I would call hospitality.
On a positive side, the reception staff was very friendly and the hotel has some decent views, but in the end that did not make up for all the other bits.
The overall experience falls short of European standards, never mind the Japanese ones.

Great views, great staff, great food & a great (interesting) climb to get there😜. I stayed in the ground floor dormitory room, which was fine as I was the only occupant😜. WiFi was OK too. View was worth the climb.
