  約700万年前に海中で出来た固い砂岩と軟らかい泥岩が繰り返し積み重なった地層が隆起し、長い間に波に洗われ、固い砂岩層だけが板のように積み重なって見えるようになりました。 青島から日南市・巾着島までの海岸線に見られます。

  約700万年前に海中でできた地層が隆起、その見た目から「鬼の洗濯板」と呼ばれる。2015/6/16関西テレビ「よ～いドン！」いきなり日帰りツアー：宮崎、たむらけんじ訪問。

  位置は青島ですが、洗濯板自体は日南市にかけて数十キロ続いている。「水曜どうでしょう」では2度登場。最初は原付西日本で大泉さんが洗濯をした。このときは日南市。2度目は絵ハガキの旅IIで青島の風景として。
