Great JR station, the main entry point to Nagano. During winter season this station is jam packed with people. Sadly you have to get your souvenirs elsewhere as selections here is limited

新幹線改札の外の喫茶店ではジビエ(鹿の害獣駆除の肉)のカレーが食べられる。suicaエリア外なので、suicaで新幹線に乗った場合にそのまま在来線に乗り換えてしまうと下車駅で苦労する(長野駅の新幹線と在来線の間の改札はモバイルsuica特急券で通れるがその先は無い)。改札内、駅ビルでは多分(？)全店舗でsuica支払い可能。

北陸新幹線「あさま」は東京〜当駅間を運行。ダイヤ改定で車内販売が廃止されたので食料は事前に買っておくこと。

北陸新幹線・信越本線・北しなの線・長野電鉄長野線の三社4本の路線が乗り入れています。長野電鉄乗り場は離れているので乗り換え時間には余裕を持って。

北陸新幹線が長野開業工事に伴い、善光寺を模した旧駅舎は取り壊され、橋上駅舎になった。また、上野〜長野〜直江津間の特急は全廃、信越線の普通も殆どが長野で系統分離されている。北陸新幹線金沢延伸に伴い、信越線長野以北がしなの鉄道に転換され、この傾向はさらに強まると考えられる。

Suicaエリア外ですが駅ナカの店の大体はSuicaが使えます。またSuicaロッカーもあります。後、あさまには車内販売がないので事前に食料は購入して下さい。

観光地である、善光寺に行くならばこの駅から長野電鉄か周遊バスを利用したほうが一番良い。徒歩だと約25～30分かかり、途中には高低差のある坂道を登らなければならない。

長野新幹線終着駅。北陸新幹線/信越本線/篠ノ井線/飯山線/しなの鉄道と接続。2014年に延伸される北陸新幹線の乗務員交代を長野駅でされることが決まり、北陸方面をJR西日本が、関東方面をJR東日本で運行することになった。

If you hope to eat "Shinshu-SOBA", Go to local train home No.3-5. And then, you look for "裾花郷". My suggestions are "KAKE-SOBA" and "SANSAI-SOBA".

JR在来線では、旧東海道線とか京浜東北線の車両が走ってるのがちらほら見られます。ちなみに、私鉄の長野電鉄線では、特急列車は旧成田エクスプレス車両、普通列車は旧東急線車両が走ってます。違和感が楽しいですよ～
