A medium-sized ryokan 40min from Kanazawa with it's own small onsen with coffee colored water (!) said to be good for skin, and on a small plot of land that's been somewhat pruned into a Japanese garden. There's nothing else in the area so prepare to spend the entire day within the hotel. It was built 250 years ago and had been owned/operated privately since. It's a beautiful traditional Japanese style complex, filled with an eclectic mix of antiques and knick knacks collected by the owner. I stumbled across a fashion magazine dated 2008 on a coffee table. That said, the service is impeccable - you're treated like a revered guest - and the food is delicious. It's a good place to relax, particularly in the warm months when the shoji screens can be thrown open.

素晴らしい、他の温泉地と違って周辺に同業がなくとても静かな佇まい。そして、とても深遠な気配を感じると想えば、どうりで敷地内に能の舞台がある。
夜ともなれば、この館内にはいたるところに神が宿る。それは置かれた調度しかり、其々がとても寓話的な雰囲気を醸していており、アニミズムという言葉を思い出す。元来、日本家屋には神が宿る特別な空間があったはずだ。
静寂のなか湯に浸る。さすれば、自分が日本書紀の登場人物になったかのような錯覚を覚えざる得ない。。
深夜、窓からの月明かりが女房を神々しく照らす。まるで初めて女神に出くわした純真な青年のごとく感情を駆り立てられ、思わず女房の浴衣に手をかける。
このような鄙びた温泉旅館で2回も女房を抱いてしまったのは、まさに狂言的だったといえよう。response / report this review -

お湯は、茶色で珍しい。風呂が狭い。宿は、博物館。外国の客人もいます。金沢の近くにこんな宿があるなんて

Despite my "skoshi Nihongo" extremely friendly and obvious historical place. Enjoyed that water which smoothenes the skin. Arrigatou.
