Way too expensive to be good.
Beautiful art, wonderful food!
Kitcho, Kyoto
Sampling a meal at this Japanese restaurant means forking over around 43,200 JPY ($390) to indulge in kaiseki, a style of dining many believe to be the epitome of carefully conceived and executed Japanese cuisine.
Third-generation chef Kunio Tokuoka delivers an elegant series of plates showcasing seasonal, local ingredients, such as abalone and tofu with sea urchin, which guests savor in their own private tatami room.
Reputationally, kaiseki at its best and it really is as good as they say. Served by friendly staff in private tatami rooms, ingredients both common and rare (puffer fish, white strawberries) are served with seasonal theatrics (breaking clay pots with hammers, wrapped in paper poems and the like). Book 2-3 months in advance during high seasons; restaurant is responsive online.
doubletdine; do not miss this restaurant. Everything is so perfect

On the 18 of june 1932, I attended your restaurant “Kitcho” with some friends to celebrate the long awaited divorce of my wife. I am writing this letter to inform you that the quality of your services is much below the standard than expected.
Two months ago i booked a specific table next to a window so i could have a nice view of the israeli war while i ate my mammoth steak sprinkled with unicorn dust, this meal was apart of the menu emailed to me after i made my reservation for my 52 closest friends.
As I entered Kitcho i approached the maitre d' to aware him of our reservation but he was attending a personal call an rudely told us to “go sit over there”, after seating ourselves we noticed the music was very loud, so loud infact we could barely hold a conversation with each other. Also the music was very erratic and crazy, and making it an unpleasant environment for eating.
I ordered my mammoth steak sprinkled in unicorn dust but was disappointed to hear that the menu had changed so i ordered a regular large steak instead. Me and my closest 52 closest friends somehow were waiting a long time for our food, so i politely asked a waitress why our food was taking so long and she rudely replied with “i don’t know, i'm not the chef! You will just have to wait like everyone else.” I thought this was very rude and unprofessional.
Highest regards to the chef as my steak and basashi was perfect.
I feel that if i pay $900.00 per person to just to enter kitcho, i would be treated more politely and served better food. I am appalled at the standards of this 8 star restaurant and will burn it to the ground if it's the last thing i do!
One of the best 3 stars restaurant we have done ! We had one big room only for us with the view on the japanese garden by night. Service is wonderful ! Kaiseki menu is really great ! Top traditional japanese restaurant !
