金色堂と宝物館で合わせて800円の入場料がかかります。金色堂は本当に金色で見応えあります。

The golden temple itself, housed within the 1963 building, is much smaller than you might expect. There are very few pictures of the golden temple in promotional literature.

『中尊寺 金色堂覆堂』(1965年建立)。 この建物の内部に「金色堂」(1124年建立)があります。圧巻でした。

It's a temple built to house another temple. Understandable, since the second temple is made of gold. Very impressive artifact. Other temples here are admission free, if you're wondering.

【国宝】中尊寺創建当初の姿を今に伝える唯一の建造物で、天治元年（1124）に上棟されました。堂の内外に金箔を押してある「皆金色」の阿弥陀堂です（屋根部分は解体修理の際に金箔の痕跡が発見できなかったために箔補てんは見送られました）

拝観券を買うと宝物殿を先に見るように強く言われますが、無視して金色堂を先に拝観した方が理解が深まります。
