This hospital treats foreigners with contempt. I've been here for 20 years and I've been to this hospital numerous times, mainly because it's closest to my home. Each time, they try to refuse me treatment. If I go with a Japanese person, it's a different story. Today alone, and with a simple case of conjunctivitis, I was flat out refused service. I was waiting outside the examination room to see a general practitioner, I was the only patient in the ward. The nurse came out and told me that the doctor feels I should go to another hospital. "So, he won't even look at my eye," I said. When I finally said, "So, you are refusing me medical service, is that correct?" At this point, they realized that I knew this basic law, that you can't refuse medical service to people. And then, finally the doctor looked at my eye and prescribed me eye drops. It's sad, when you have to fight every time to get some medical service. I've had this problem so many times before and they just say oh well the doctor can't speak English. I can speak Japanese well enough, and he or she is a doctor, we don't need to have a chat: Look at the symptoms, run tests if needed, make a diagnosisdo your job. I have other stories of past experiences at this hospital which are much worse, but I won't get into that today. One gets very tired of having to go through this every time they need medical treatment, it's shameful. This hospital is probably pleased with this review as they do not want to accept foreigners.
