Very good Ryokan. Nice breakfast, the spa is clean and with lots of options. Do not go if you have a tattoo you can't hide. They do not allow (this is a common rule in Japan).

Great staff, super welcoming environment. Although their English is limited they did their best to accommodate me and there are many signs in English in the actual bathing area. The bath itself is super clean and well taken care of and most importantly relaxing. I went on a Tuesday around 3PM and luckily had the whole bath area to myself as no one else was there. Would definitely come again and recommend to anyone visiting the Gifu area.

This hotel is perched over the Nagara river just near the bridge where they start the cormorant fishing.
We booked the 'ukai'(cormorant fishing) course off season. At 1800 there is an explanation of the ukai by one of the fishermen. Then you sit on the open boat and have a delicious kaiseki dinner as you drift along the river. Did I mention there is live dancing and music boats that pass by?
As the sun goes down the bonfires begin as the fishing boats roar past.
The hotel was likely built during the boom years and is showing a little wear and tear, but the service is excellent and you can't beat the location.
A night in the Japanese style room against the river for two adults and a baby cost around USD 700 or so for the night. Including the ukai experience and breakfast.
Definitely something to see once. And a nice place to stay.response / report this review -
