To the west of Tennoji Park is Shin-Sekai, one of Osaka's most interesting neighborhoods. This area has remained largely untouched over the years. At the beginning of the 20th Century the area flourished, and pulsed with amusement attractions and restaurants that drew enormous crowds. Today, little of the bustle remains, but many old eating and drinking establishments can still be found. One highlight is Jan-Jan Yokocho Lane, which runs along one side of Shin-Sekai. This dining and shopping street is where laborers who rebuilt Osaka after World War II gathered, and it still contains Japanese-style pubs and cheap cafeteria-like restaurants with highly unique menus that include hormone-yaki (barbecued cattle organs) and kushi-yaki (Japanese shish kebab); it's an entertainment district for locals, much as it has always been. The name of this alley comes from the "jan jan" strumming sound of the Japanese banjo that waitresses used to play to attract customers.

This shopping area is in front of Tennoji Zoo.
It is also situated near Tsutenkaku Tower.
There are many restaurants with vast variety of food.
There are 2 subway stations nearby ie Ebisucho and Dobutsuen Mae.response / report this review -

Very nice and vast area to explore, full of shops and restaurants, I would advise to go on the weekend and by evening as it's more crowded and there is this gorgeous show of lights and billboards like you never seen before! so many good restaurants to choose from, they will literally try to pull you inside sometimes lol

Tons of interesting restaurants and souvenir shop that I felt the price is reasonable, you can even find official PPAP(Pen-Pineapple Apple-Pen)products there, no joke.

Feels very shady. Nothing much there. Sales stuff very aggressive as compared to anywhere of Japan. But that's based on looks. If you look poor or look like a student, they simple doesn't care about you. If you look western or Japanese they they will prey on you hard.

A shopping area with very long history.
No modern building nor modern shop.
But you could feel it.
It is the landmark in Osaka for decades.
