Crowded, crowded and crowded. Old houses and a lot of people. Smelly toilet.

Essentially a mini-Shirakawago (an village made of very old Japanese homes and structures preserved for future generations). Worth a visit if you're in Gero and have a couple of hours free. Admission is ¥800 payable at the entrance. Local hotels often offer discount prices

Skansen (open air museum) located few minutes from Gero by walk. The tickets can be purchased right at the entrance, or in one of the hotels where you stay - in this case there is some discount. This area is divided by road and connected by a passage under the road. There is a souvenir shop and also nice and small restaurant.
Most old houses can be visited with display of old rural stuff and also display of traditional Japanese dolls.
The other half is with nice view from the mountain and also offers 100 yen slide from top of the mountain to the bottom - try it, it's really fun!response / report this review -

Pleasant. Not fantastic. Must do the slide - 100 yen. Besides the view, that's definitely a defining piece.
