RSCN is an adorable society for human and animal and plant
The Azraq Wetland Reserve is a nature reserve located near the town of Azraq in the eastern desert of Jordan. An oasis for migratory birds, Azraq was established in 1978 and covers 12 square kilometres (4.6 sq mi). The natural springs dried up in 1992 and most migratory birds subsequently moved away from the area. Artificial springs are maintained today in order to keep the site a tourist destination.
Surprisingly pretty place with a sad story. One a major oasis, now sustainable only my pumping water back.
Historic wetlands with artifacts of ancient civilizations. Partially restored by RSCN but still decline information due to over pumping. Nice bird hide to view local birds. Small interpretive centre detailing the history and current state of the wetlands. Pleasant picnic area to sit and eat your own food. Trail through the wetlands that covers the restored area with signs explaining the project.
The situation with the wetland is pretty depressing though seeing the birds is nice.
Unfortunately there is hardly any wet left at these wetlands. They have started pumping water back into the wetlands, which is a start, but they still have a long way to go. Center is very informative and there are still lots of birds that migrate through here that you can see if you time your visit right.
Nice place to visit.
Amazing history, kind people, good adventure, and nice weather
Great place to take the kids for a quick trip great for taking pictures
It's a nice place to visit
The reserve is pretty simple and nice, however the wetland itself is a bit sad to see, especially if you research what it used to be
It's so sad to see that the water here is illegally taken and there is so little wildlife. The facilities are nice but the entrance fee is too high and there's too much litter that needs to be cleaned up. I hope it one day is revived.
Improved since the last time we went, not only did it seem cleaner, and even nicer, I also managed to photograph species I had wanted to for a while. Nice, quiet, and filled with wildlife, I would have to rate this reserve 5 stars. Here's some photos of what to expect to see during the late summer/early fall months
The Azraq Wetland Reserve is a nature reserve located near the town of Azraq in the eastern desert of Jordan. An oasis for migratory birds, Azraq was established in 1978 and covers about12 square kilometres.
Nice silent place, with water. If you are already in azraq you should go visit. But if you are thinking of going there from another city, it is not worth it.
The day was yellowish-brownish from the sand in the air and nobody but me visited the reserve. The ancient oasis used to be rich in water, however, today the springs are used as a source of water supplies for Amman, so the water levels keep dropping leaving mudflats and marshland. Still, it is an amazing place for bird-watching since many species of migrating birds use it as their stopover or winter breeding shelter. The Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature (RSCN) has built watch-posts as well as a visitor center with audiovisual production telling the story of the oasis and modern threats to its existence. If you are a bird lover, do not forget to pay a visit when you visit Jordan; it's less than an hour drive from Amman.
A beautiful hidden gem that is definitely worth a visit but make sure you bring your own food. Very well kept and very clean with excellent service
A great place, with a great food .
Such a beautiful wetland deserve that you can enjoy easely with your family .You can spend tow hours of wondering in the pure vergin nature. Like it.
Lovely place to visit especial in the spring season. Sadly the water level has dramatically decreased since they started pumping water from it. It's coming back to life but slowly.
Its sad to see the water from this once amazing oasis almost completely gone. It's worth a visit just to help with the awareness of Jordan's impending water crisis.
