University of Technology Association of Nursing and Midwifery Student’s, an affiliate of the Nurses’ Association of Jamaica, referred to as UTANS. Its purpose is to explore and develop a greater understanding of the nursing profession among nursing and midwifery students, to promote personal and professional development of nursing and midwifery students and to provide service to others in the university and surrounding communities. It also aid in the development of the whole person, his/her professional role and his/her responsibility for the health care of people in all walks of life.
Our motto is: “Angeles del cuidado, barreras rotas” (Angels of care, breaking down barriers).
UTANS function to promote and encourage participation in community affairs and activities towards improved health care and the resolution of related social issues. We represent nursing students to the consumer, to institutions and other organizations, promote and encourage students’ participation in interdisciplinary activities.
We also promote and encourage recruitment efforts, participation in student activities, and educational opportunities regardless of a person’s race, color, creed, sex, age, lifestyle, national origin, disability status, height, marital status, political persuasion, religion and economic status. We promote and encourage collaborative relationships with nursing professional organizations as well as other related health organizations.

• Providing professional care to all those patients that we encounter during our commitment to the nursing profession.

• Keeping our professional knowledge at its highest level, by keeping updated on current nursing trends and be further educated regarding our professional nursing skills that we provide.
• Giving support to our health care team and cooperates and follows all rules and regulations as set out by the University’s Caribbean School of Nursing.
• Honouring the international code of ethics applied to nursing and midwifery to the best of our ability.
• Maintaining the integrity and identity of the professional nurse and midwife.

The Students Union has asked that all club meetings scheduled for tomorrow be postponed to facilitate Union mass meeting to be held @3 pm under SOBA gazebo.
In adherence to this request the activity scheduled for UTANS meetings tomorrow september 28th (Care plan session) will be postponed until next Thursday October 5 2017.
This will also facilitate those intending to attend COHS awards ceremony.
