Trinity Moravian Skills Development Centre was established in 1984 to prepare persons seventeen years (17) and over for employment as well as to use skills training as a means of stemming some of the social ills like teenage pregnancy. The project is operated and managed by the Trinity Moravian Church through a Community Management Committee (CMC). The day to day activities is managed by a Coordinator.
The project in partnership with HEART Trust/NTA currently offers the following skills training in Commercial Food Preparation Levels 1 & 2, Housekeeping Levels 1 & 2 and Cake Baking and Decorating with new programs to be included such as Food and Beverage Service, and other short courses such as Fruit Carving, Customer Service and Data Entry.
The institution offers two (2) divisions, morning and evening.
Commercial Food Preparation
This program provides a complete training from properly receiving, handling, preparing and storing food items such as meats, vegetables, fruits and dried foods. They also will learn the basics of food safety and sanitation. In addition to meal preparation, students will be exposed to baking a variety of cakes, speciality cakes, yeast goods and pastries. The course will also expose the learners to the basic principles in setting tables, planning event and various tools and equipment used in commercial food service. A Commercial Food preparation certificate program can prepare an individual to work under the supervision of a chef in a restaurant or private home as well as becoming a Commis Chef.
Housekeeping
This program is about the general upkeep and cleanliness of the public areas and
guestrooms of a hotel or hospitality setting. This course focuses on developing
students’ knowledge of housekeeping standard operating procedures and processes.
Students are exposed to tasks such as cleaning of guest rooms and public spaces through
either simulation or hotel visit. Laundry operations, public areas and special projects are
examined together with options of outsourcing vs in-house housekeeping operations. A Housekeeping certificate program is geared towards providing training for persons who wish to become a Room Attendant and Linen room Attendant in the Hospitality industry.
