Great hostel in an amazing old building which is kept in good shape. Hostel owners live there and are very helpful, kind and friendly. Have a big kitchen area, the whole property is clean and nice. They have a pet named Azura who is a good girl (picture). It is located in a walking distance to Knutsford Express Montego Bay bus station which is very convenient and also quite close to the airport.
Very secure, the front gates are locked at all times. The owner is very friendly, rooms are clean and we were able to store our bags in the hall for free after check out.
The house is super well located and beautiful and the staff is really nice
Family was very nice and welcoming without being intrusive. Guest were well behaved and not frequently in and out. House was very well kept and even though I was an American woman traveling alone in the middle of Montego Bay (crazy right lol) I felt safe! I walked to the store and a few restaurants during my 3 days there. If you want an authentic Jamaican experience for a great price Mobay Kotch is the place. I did go to a resort for the remainder of my stay though I want to be a “real tourist” as well lol!!! There is a few down sides unfortunately.. no screens in the windows which makes it easy for mosquitoes to feast on you while sleeping. Also there is no AC and only a ceiling fan that is about 40ft in the air lol. also it’s located in the marketplace area sooooo let’s just say street vendors will wake you up pretty early with the noise they create setting up and advertising
Really nice family-run hostel that’s newly renovated. Great space and wonderful hosts. Very clean and accommodating. Pretty big kitchen and enough storage room which makes it awesome for cooking.
Let me say that this was only MY personal experience and others might not have the same problem. The positive first is the building is very nice and historic which I loved. Adam, the guy working the front desk when I arrived, was amazing and very helpful my entire time at the location. The negatives are that this property has a very, large dog that isn’t penned. I was not aware that a dog was on the property otherwise I would have never stayed here. After I paid is when I first saw the dog. The WiFi does not reach the room and is very unreliable. It kept dropping several times for no reason. The only place to get service is accessible to the dog. I asked multiple times for the dog to be penned so that I could come and go as I please since I was a paying customer. My request was ignored so I asked Adam to escort me to and from the gate. The first day I was looking to go to another hotel, but Adam talked me out of it and the WiFi was so unreliable that I couldn’t book anything else. Not what I paid for, but workable. The final straw for me was when the dog barked at me inside the house and tried to get behind me in the kitchen when I was trying to eat breakfast. I decided them that I wasn’t going to leave my bed until my flight the next day. Unfortunately, a storm came and it became unbearably humid. Without A/C, it was too much for me to handle. I decided to go sleep in the airport because at least they have A/C and no dog. After I explained why I was leaving a day early, no compensation was given and I even had to pay for the ride to the airport. The final thing was the cost of the ride was $500JD. I had $1000. The person said she didn’t have any change, which was a lie because as soon as I said I didn’t have anything smaller, she found the correct change. Sorry, I was looking forward to this portion of my trip and it was a complete disaster. I didn’t get to explore because the dog was always free, and I felt like I was a prisoner. I would never stay here again. Nor would I recommend it.
Nothing fancy about this place, but it is cheap and the staff are nice and helpful. If you're a solo traveler, this place will do nicely for a night or two.
Its very nice place nice view and reasonable
The best place to stay in Montego Bay wouldnt stay anywhere else. The hosts are amazing and make the experience spectacular! I will be staying here EVERY time i'm in MoBay
The best people in Jamaica hands down. A fantastic family run hostel with a wonderful staff and a great sense of belonging. It is located perfectly within walking distance of all the main sites in town, including the beach. The wealth of knowledge you get as a visitor makes this an invaluable stop on your Jamaican adventure.
The mobay kotch is one of the few historic building that remains in the city of Montero bay. It is a two stories building (with a basement) located in front a a green stairs. The interior is very well illuminated. The bathroom are very clean and comfortable. There is a nice vew on a church also an historic building. The price is quite reasonable compared to the quality. I highly recommanded it.
Where to start?? Well, the first day of any journey usually sets the tone for what's to come and MoBay Kotch on 16th Church Street is where I found myself and glad I did. After picking it solely on the recommendation of a taxi driver from the airport, I met two of the nicest, most hospitable people in MoBay if not the entire island in Vanessa and Unlce.
The place is in the center of town, about a 20 minute walk from the blue hue coast line. Now if history is what moves you, staying in a home that is recognized by the Jamaican government as an historical landmark should do the job. And if Montego Bay is a jumping off point for you, Vanessa and Unlce are super helpful in getting you on your way with all the info needed and a pleathera of recommendations.
If you see the place and thought about picking it for your lodging in Montego Bay, just go ahead and do it!
