In the State Minster's address to the over 228 Farm Workers departing for Canada, yesterday and on Monday, he said. "I must use this opportunity to pay tribute, honour and thank the thousands and thousands of Jamaicans who have been a part of the Farm Workers programme over the past five decades. The contribution to national development in remittances, working tirelessly to provide housing and education for families left behind at great personal sacrifice cannot be merely bypassed or overlooked. The workers of this programme have played a critical role in two ways. The development in the economy of Canada through this initiative can never be overstated, whole the simultaneous efforts of our great Jamaicans to ensure all is well at home until they return".

Reposted from @jamaicaobserver (@get_regrann) - The first batch of farm workers for 2020 began departing the island for Canada, yesterday. A total of 228 workers will be leaving between yesterday and Monday, January 6, to take up employment opportunities under the Seasonal Agricultural Workers Programme. The customary send-off ceremony was held for the workers at the Ministry of Labour and Social Security's Overseas Employment Services Centre, downtown Kingston, where they were given solid advice from Minister of Labour and Social Security Shahine Robinson. The seasonal agricultural worker's programme recorded the highest number of placements with 9, 240. At the same time employment under the low skill programme totalled 611. The Ministry is fully committed to advocating inclusion, integration and empowerment for those who are disabled in our communities. However, if this is to happen, it will take a collaborative approach from all of us to stop all manner of discrimination and start to include them in all spheres of life. We encourage all Jamaicans to recognise and accept the principle that Persons with Disabilities have the same fundamental rights as any other person. #AwarenessForPWDs #JPCD #MLSS #InclusionForAll #Jamaica
