Jamaica is famous for being an engagement, wedding and a honeymoon destination. The scenic islands of Jamaica with beautiful beaches and waterfall certainly makes it a popular proposal destination. In fact, it is nailed as a demographic where you can pop the question of asking to marry you to getting married and even spending your honeymoon.
The people in Montego Bay were nice. Even though Jamaica is a beautiful place, I will never again go there, nor subject my family to visit this because of the hassle caused by the airport.
I recently celebrated my 60th birthday in Jamaica with 15 of my closest friends. While we were in Portland , we decided to go to San San beach. Mistake. Big mistake. Huge!
On arriving, we were greeted by a gentleman who told us we had to pay $700.00 each to use the beach. OK, a llittle high we thought just to swim at the beach, but we paid it. As soon as we started to spread our towels out to sit, we noticed garbage and seaweed all around us. Old plastic bottles, styrofoam containers, an old shoe and so on. We called the gentleman over to ask what the $700.00 was for if not to keep the beach clean. As soon as he got to us he asked if we needed a "rake up". So he knew the beach was in poor condition. We started to talk and he explained that they were "short staffed" and that he was the cashier, the caretaker and lifeguard. Then how you suppose to be watching the swimmers if you raking up the seaweed and collecting money???
He pointed out the owner's son sleeping on a lounge chair a few yards away and told me I could have a word with him when he woke up!!!! When he wakes up? No. I think I'll go wake him up now. And I did. The son of Ernie Smatt (Owner of Shaw Park), looked up at me from his slumber and listened to my complaint. His excuse was that as soon as they rake up the mess, the tide brings more rubbish on the beach. My response was, "If you're charging $700.00 per person, you should be able to hire more staff to keep the beach in a usable condition. Mr. Smatt's response to me was, " WELL IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT YOU CAN GET A REFUND AND LEAVE!!!!!
And so that's exactly what we did. But not before I advised him that he would be able to read about this on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc. I took a few photos, got back our money and we left.
And we wonder why tourism is not doing better than it is.
Thank God we were staying at the lovely Sea Cliff Resort - a little piece of heaven nestled on a cliff in Portland. Once we got back to the hotel, we were able to leave that horrible experience behind and enjoy the good old Jamaican hospitality of the owners and staff of Sea Cliff. Thank you Errol and Brett Hanna for making our trip so special!!!!

Used the service nearly every day in JA. My family was very pleased with this company!
This is where my mom works
