From the moment I arrived I knew Spirito di Vino was special. The owner greeted me as if I was the only person to ever enter his domain. His description of the history and age of the location enticed me downstairs to view the ancient wine cellar. Every course of my meal that I selected was superb! This is the best food in Rome. I thoroughly recommend you visit Spirito di Vino. Slow food, quick service and a delightful experience. Gracie ❤️

The restaurant was recommended by the staff at our hotel and we were glad we followed their advice. My wife and I had a wonderful meal/experience there. The owner spent time at each table asking about where we were from what we had done what we had seen and recommended menu items based on our conversation. I loved hearing the history of the place and I felt like I was going back in time walking into the basement. This was easily the best meal we had in Rome and it was made more special by the staff of the restaurant.

Kind owner- special experience to witness the wine cellar dating back to before the development of the Coliseum. Being of Jewish decent, it felt surreal being in one of the oldest former synagogues (per owner's detail). The walls of the restaurant are still original and the cellar is simply amazing. Wish we could have enjoyed dinner (no reservation made prior)..it has a nice vibe and food looked amazing

As you can see by the number of reviews, Spirito di Vino is actually a hidden gem.
A house nearly 1,300 years old.
A restaurant using Gaius Masius' (Second Century BC) recipes as an inspiration, brought to your table using all the ancient ingredients (no salt, they use "garum", to name but one detail).
A unique experience. As close as a travel through time as possible, when you descend the steps to the cellar: 16th, 12th Century AD, and through to the 2nd Century BC.
Michelin's and Slow Food's darling.
Getting there (particularly in the evening) is part of the experience, as you wander those meandering cobbled streets
I enjoyed its hospitality many times all along my 6 years stay in Rome, so I feel I can review Spirito di Vino with some sort of expertise.response / report this review -

We loved everything about our meal. The atmosphere was so friendly and quaint. Owner, chef and all staff really took care of us. Food was amazing. We will go back again.

We loved meeting the owner and his son-so personable and learning the history of the building (a former synagogue) was a plus. The food was excellent- cooked by the wife of the owner. Excellent Italian Jewish food.

I have had the pleasure to eat in this amazing restaurant more than once. It's a family run environment with a chef that uses genuine, local slow food products. Thier dishes are amazing and thier wine cellars is simply stunning.

Loved it here. I booked my table in advance be email for my girlfriend's birthday meal and was greeted warmly by Francesco on arrival. The waiters were great, giving us the history of the building and of the food on the menu. I was so pleased we went here. We also took a sneaky peak at the cellar as it is quite a unique place. Thank you Spirito di Vino for a great night.
