La struttura si divide in un osservatorio inferiore ospitato nella Sala della Meridiana e in osservatorio superiore allestito a 35m di altezza nella Sala delle Figure.

Alla Specola ha sede l'Osservatorio Astronomico di Padova, struttura di ricerca dell'INAF (Istituto Nazionale di Astrofisica), ente nazionale di ricerca. La torre ne ospita la sezione museale.

Splendido luogo di Padova. Ma Galileo non l'ha mai frequentata, dato che all'epoca sua era una torre semi-diroccata ed è divenuta Osservatorio solo nel 1767 (cfr www.faceboook.com/museo.laspecola)
