our experience from check in to check out was good service. the location was good and the food was absolutely a wonderful surprise. we will definitely choose it again and highly recommend it. there are stairs to climb though if you are weak legged.

A special recommendation for love-followers travelers!
The following text narrate a personal (meaningfull) experience.
For working reasons, in the lest year, I have overnight about 4 days a week, for about 5 months at Hotel Sassi. I don't mean merely overnight, but mostly because of my work, I needed a full support by the whole Hotel staff. Many things can happened if your business required a more second home than a simple room.
Each time they dealt with my personal request, by the other side, there was a fresh, helpful and energetic reaction. I have been spent from early spring to late autumn, a plenty of time to interact with everybody from the crew. Their passion spread on their working position is simply amazing. They love what they do, it is's naturally remarkable.
An efficient family that never sleep. From early in the morning to late at the night, the guys replies are courtesy, problem solving and cheerful. 3 serene ingredients that is life-blood of a thriving staying. What do you ask more for? Either if you are on business or leisure purpose. Frankly, in 5 moths I got several chances to see a small world passing by the masterful ambient of Hotel Sassi, so quiet a good time to develop impression about the place.
The reason is just because they love what they do, and they do it with love.
Nothing is better than your house, but the Hotel Sassi, because of is working-people is your second house. It's just a personal and meaningful summary after 5 months.
With endless gratitude to: the cleaning\reception\breakfast girls, the factotum boy (Pino), the lobby boy (the young one), the night porter. A special thanks to Gregorio that reply to me with a smiling face nevertheless I have lost some important “document”.
ps1 Breakfast is not mentioned here for a simple reason. Nevertheless, if I could have type the following words on a romantic piece of paper I would not have talked about it. Basically, because the taste of the gorgeous focaccia they serve for breakfast either fresh regional fruit is not printable on a smartphone screen.
ps2 Charme and uniqueness of the rooms is not possible to be illustrated without being here. To describe the Hotel location won't be enough a Pindaric fly from your current position. The real view from the Hotel Sassi terrace is the stunning city of Matera, as travel magazine artificially longs for it.response / report this review -

Remember this is a cave hotel so don't expect five star luxury. Cave rooms are simply furnished. Some rooms are dispersed from the central core of the hotel. Friendly staff and a good breakfast buffet.

The rooms are carved into the rocks and this beautiful hotel has all you need to stay comfortable and have a very nice holiday in Matera!!! 24h receptionist and free WiFi complete the pack! I'll be back!

Very polite and helpful staff, looking well after their customers. Wonderful to be hosted by smiley people! The rooms take you back in time as they are built in the cave however furnishing and finishes are a bit worn out and rooms slightly smelly due to humidity. The view is fantastic and the location allows easy mobility around the area.

Vista panoramica. Stanza umida, mediocre nella pulizia, bagno scomodo e aereatore guasto in bagno senza finestra. Buona la colazione è belli gli ambienti della hall.
