PLUS POINTS
This hotel is in a good location.
We were given a nice room with a beautiful wooden ceiling, excellent air conditioning and a well appointed but small bathroom.
The man who greeted us at reception and led us to our room was very polite and kind.
He listened patiently to my Italian and replied slowly in simple ItalIan or excellent English (when necessary).
The best shower in Italy!
There was lots of hot water and the water pressure was consistently strong.
Breakfast was served by an extremely helpful man who was fluent in both English and French.
Our room was cleaned while we ate breakfast and extra pillows were provided without us having to ask.
One of the major plus points is the preponderance of middle aged or elderly Americans spouting nonsense such as -
"Oh, the thing about mosquito bites is that they itch."
Or the man who said in answer to a query about mosquito bites replied that he did not have a problem as he just "spaced them out" (followed by an all encompassing embarrassed silence as his compatriots in the (Special Needs) group pondered his statement).
Or the same man stating categorically -
"You know what one of my sayings is?
(Please wait with great anticipation for this nugget of wisdom.)
"Why do you have to get old to enjoy some life?"
We had to stifle our laughter until we got back to our room.
Top marks for being ridiculously stereotypical.
MINUS POINTS
Unfortunately, either the walls are very thin or we have very loud neighbours, the pillows are rather thin and the wall safe is very small indeed!
There seems to be an irregular drip in the cistern in the bathroom.
More annoyingly, it only seems to drop during the night!
When checking out there is a City Tax of €2.00 per person per night for a maximum of three nights for a total of €12.00.report this review -

Hotel molto bello e curato, la nostra camera era spaziosa e luminosa, con la doppia esposizione. Situato in un'ottima posizione dentro le mura della città, il personale è gentile e sorridente. Dovessi tornare a Lucca ci tornerei sicuramente. Consigliatissimo!!

Very elegant and classy hotel. Premium educated staff, excelling in service and helpfulness. Carefully furnished in style, parking around the corner, perfectly styled rooms, immaculately clean. English Italian German Spoken, Excellent breakfast. Certainly one of the small hotels in Europe to really feel at home. Romantic and Classic in style
