Absolutely the best views on the planet! Extras are very, very expensive. Rooms are okay.

Considering the amount paid, this has to be one of the worst hotels we have ever stayed at.
The hotel was so poor that although I do not generally leave reviews, I felt it was quite necessary to do so on this occasion.
It must initially be said that the views are quite spectacular. This however, cannot even begin to overshadow the overwhelmingly negative experience we had. The same views can be accessed from any other hotel up the road (those also being much closer to the town of Amalfi). The hotel is located in the middle of a busy road, making it difficult and dangerous to walk to the town centre. A shuttle bus is available on the hour, but this is generally inconsistent and unreliable.
Firstly, and most importantly, it is generally recognised that the backbone of any good hotel is its workforce. The staff at the Il Saraceno are generally rude, impatient, and do not go out of their way at all to try to make your stay more pleasurable. Simple requests such as asking for an iron (which was surprisingly UNAVAILABLE), asking about the shuttle service downtown, or asking for room service, were consistently met with argumentative and hostile responses.
Furthermore and on this point, aside from the food being abysmal (a 'veal hamburger and chips' turning out to be 2 bun-less veal patties with a tiny portion of fries), and the coffee being quite laughable, the staff at the restaurant never fail to make you feel unwelcome and uncomfortable. The restaurant itself, and the bar upstairs also lack atmosphere. This point brings me on to my final, and perhaps most fundamental concern; the Il Saraceno Grand itself.
The hotel's design and decor are vastly outdated. The rooms themselves are poorly furnished, dingy, and most definitely not fitting of a hotel of this caliber. The pictures online are misleading. The bins are made of cheap plastic, the minibar is poorly filled, and the furniture is very old and fragile (a wooden chair even collapsed while a member of my family was casually sitting on it). Furthermore, the walls are very thin, and sounds are consistently heard from the corridor and rooms above.
The beach itself is fine, but follows in the same trend as the rest of he hotel in that it lacks any atmosphere. There is also a ludicrous absence of any service of any kind by the hotel's pool.
Overall, I think it is safe to say that this is not a hotel we will be coming back to. If you are considering this place, I can honestly say that your money would be much more wisely spent elsewhere. There are much better (and cheaper) hotels in the area. Avoid the Il Saraceno Grand Hotel at all costs.response / report this review -

While the room may not have been world class, the location and the view made me forget about all of that. Amalfi is my favorite place of all that I've visited, so I may be a little biased, but I don't think you'd be disappointed staying here!

The entire hotel setup is great, everything is beautiful, EXCEPT the rooms. We tried two different rooms and each were run down. Usually this isn't a big deal, but when you're paying 260 euro a night it is a big deal. It felt like I was staying in the basement of grandmas house.
The hotel is a 4STAR but the rooms are far from it.
Pros: View, free breakfast, location, private beach, beautiful architecture.
Cons: Grumpy staff, old rooms, price for what you get.
