You would expect much more from the place where the rests of the person who gave birth to the Italian language are. Nothing exceptional. Yes entrance is free, but as usual the poor status of maintenance is just ridiculous.

The tomb is really small but this place offers more than what we just see.
Next to it there is a small hill of ivy in which it was hidden from grave robbers during the WW2. Moreover if you will visit Ravenna in September (I don't remember the day) you may have the possibility to see one of the most nice events of Ravenna. Dante died in Ravenna but he was born in Florence from which it was exiled. Every year the mayor of Florence comes with the oil for the lamp in the tomb of Dante with a really nice company, dressed as they were in Dante's times. At the gate of the tomb there is the mayor of Ravenna that accept the oil and politely decline the request to give to Florence the tomb of the poet.
