had an amazing experience. the Caffe is the oldest in town and the atmosphere is very cool. Prices are ok, considering the prestige of the venue. More service to the tables would be appreciated, but else it's great

Had a great supper here while visiting Trieste. The steak was the best I have had on this side of the Atlantic, and almost the best ever. Definitely worth the time for supper.

On our travels through Istria we came by Triest and where exited to read about the Coffee history of the town. So we looked at the possibilities for good coffee and settled for the Tommaseo. The caffè has some real charme back from the old days and so it is a really pleasant place to relax. As for the coffee it self we where unfortunately not as pleasantly surprised. We had Cappuccino, Late macchiato, Hot chocolate and a tiramisu. Cappuccino and Late macchiato where not really hot but rather lukewarm when they arrived at our table. The cappuccino was missing most of its milk foam and was rather another Late macchiato in a cup. But it doesn't stop there. The taste was plain disappointing. I was surprised to read at the door that they "just" serve plain old illy in that historic place but I had much better illy in other places around the world. There was just no full flavor to be found in that cappuccino or late macchiato. We where really disappointed. To top it of the water they served with the coffee had a noticeable chlorine taste. All of that would have been ok for having that coffee at a roadside stop but for a historic caffè with double the prices of the average Triest cafe a few blocks down it really left me wondering It's really a shame and I hope it was just an Easter Monday fluke. The two stars are only for the charme of the interior of the caffè

Fancy looking place with fine food and slightly higher prices. We really enjoyed it here. Coffee is excellent as well.

Good coffee, but this you can get in many places in town. Staff wasn't very attentive, miscalculated the change, but at least I can say I had coffee in the oldest coffeehouse in town.
