Siamo tornati dopo tanto tempo un pò timorosi dei tanti cambiamenti.. invece abbiamo trovato un ambiente molto elegante e al passo con i tempi. ! L'albergo è diventato un piccolo boutique con camere molto belle divise in stili. Questa volta abbiamo scelto una camere Tuscany con balcone vista mare. Molto utilie la guida dei ristoranti selezionati dal personal manager. Ottimo giardino , ottimo angolo del benessere. Vicinissimo al mare e alla spiaggia. Abbiamo molto gradito la ricca e buonissima colazione. Tornere sicuramente !

Alright, first of all, I slept in a beautiful beachfront suites. That means the view is beyond fantastic. Second of all the interior design, I found exciting the choice of rooms according to your taste. Third of all, the breakfast is freakin amazing. My last, but not least, good comment is that the place reminded me of a Caribbean beach. Thanks!

L'hotel Ilio è un meraviglioso Boutique Hotel, appena rinnovato, che abbina il comfort di un albergo di design, la professionalità di tre generazioni di tradizione alberghiera e la bellezza dell'incantevole location di Sant'Andrea. Hotel elegante ed internazionale.

What I felt about Ilio: robbed. 175€ for what I have found expecting a real boutique hotel made very upset. I would have been very happy to pay this money if the reality was different.
But it was my fault! Why: when I was booking I didn't ask size of the room or other details. I was too sold on the word boutique which around the world is guarantee of comfort and service. I have been in many boutique hotels in my life and for sure they were different from this one. To give you some context I spend in hotels 10-15 nights per months (both leisure or work) so yes I do have some benchmark.
What I honestly think about Ilio: marketing wise amazing, website super shiny with wonderful polished pictures BUT what you find at arrival is quite different, is a series of apartments cheaply renovated.
I booked on the phone and I have asked for the room Mediterraneo, there wasn't any with sea view so I took a garden view. At our arrival we were glad to find parking but when we saw the structure we were a little surprised: quite unaccessible for luggage as full of slopes and stairs and no one offered any help (something that you would find in a boutique hotel).
A kind lady showed us the way to the room through a narrow white corridor with doors which hand holder was the same that you would find in public toilets.
When we entered the room it was hot as hell (looks like to save some money they don't leave air con on), to open the window I had to jump of the bed because the space between bed and window was too tiny. With my surprise the view was a roof covered with solar panels and in the tiny balcony plastic table and chairs (again not very boutique).
Toilette was another disappointment: the space between the wc and the sink was so small that I couldn't relax (and I am quite short!). Shower size was decent but there wasn't any products holder and thank god I had my products as the one provided were quite cheap.
Towels were clean but clearly to save more money they don't use any softener so using them was quite unpleasanta natural scrub!
Thank god it was warm and I didn't have to dry my hair as the wall hair dryer was awful (certainly not boutique style)
In a corner we found an old scarfI wonder the cleaning service
The spring bed was quite uncomfortable which led to two terrible nights.
To be fair here are the things that I think are nice about Ilio:
+ breakfast + delicious prosciutto cotto, wonderful soy cappuccino, good bread
+ breakfast staff
+ lobby stylish and sunny terrace
+ parking
+ flowers and trees everywhere
Now this is my personal opinion and this is how I felt. Other hotels of the area such as Gallo Nero and so on look more honest in terms of pricing and offering.response / report this review -

I have spent 5 days at Hotel Ilio in september, with my wife and 1 yr daughter and we absolutely loved it. It is casual and elegant at the same time, very clean and with great attention to every little detail (they call themself "Boutique hotel"). Our room seemed brand new and was decorated in a very creative way, according to a "sea" theme and with a great view on the sea. The restaurant has limited choice (3 fixed menues that change every day) but it's really good even for who, like me, doesn't eat fish, so we ended up having dinner there every night. Breakfast is also really good, with a lot of choice and buffet-style. The staff was very friendy, at the same time respecting our privacy: you could tell they did actually care that we had a pleasent stay.
It takes a little less than an hour to reach Capo Sant'Andrea from Porto Ferraio, it has it's own beach (3 minutes walk from the hotel) and then you are pretty close to Marciana and to some great beaches like Fetovaia and Cavoli and to some interesting trails. Definitely will go back there on our next trip to Elba.response / report this review -

Smaller European rooms but very clean and efficient. Nice courtyard area. Best evening meal we had in Italy with attentive servers. Generous breakfast buffet and close walk to the beach. Beautiful!
