Didn't stay for dinner as it came in the wine. As well as the many creatures served in the drinks, there were a lot of flies in the restaurant. Waiter didn't seem bothered about either. Would not recommend.
Antica Taverna is a quiet and quaint little restaurant in the side streets just out of tourist traffic. The staff is very friendly and welcomed us with a short glass of prosecco and a variety of breads for the table. I was overjoyed to find they had both rabbit and octopus on the menu. The prices are pretty low and the serving size is larger than expected. I look forward to returning.
DO NOT COME HERE!
I just went last week to eat a pizza with my gf, and we both got surprised how bad this restaurant is.
We asked 2 different pizzas, and both were not well cooked and seemed they were frozen, something you can'd do in Italy, and of course during all night we had stomach aches.
Then they put everywhere that there's no service fee, but as soon as you sit they put a basket of bread in the table. As we ordered pizzas we didn't eat the bread. When we asked the bill, the bread was charged, so I called the waiter and told him we didnt eat the bread to which he agreed and took it off the bill. YOU HAVE TO SAY IT!
As it was cold outside wee were sitting inside and we watched how all the bread left in the basket they put it back into a big bread bag and serve it again to other customers.
Most disgusting inedible food I have ever been served. Sent it back and didn't want anything else. Doesn't even deserve 1 star. They also sent us the bill with €9 added for something we didn't order. Do not eat here.
This review is an awful pity, because we visited this restaurant twice and had 2 completely different experiences. The first night (Wednesday) we had the most fantastic outing, with great wine, delicious meatballs, friendly staff. We enjoyed it so much we left a large tip and vowed to come back before the week was out.
So, along we came Friday, and I had to double check I was in the same place. I was, the only problem was the owner was on the floor (and serving customers, unfortunately). First he insisted the 20 euro bottle of wine we had the previous evening was no longer available, and insisted on the 40 euro bottle. I refused and went for an 18 euro bottle instead. Then I ordered antipasto, but instead of going to the kitchen, he picked (with his unwashed hand) bits and pieces from some "all you can eat" buffet that was going on in the corner (complete with flies). Main course was fine, but rosemary potato side dish never arrived, so I asked again (it finally arrived after we were finished). Meanwhile, the family beside us were arguing about the bill, as they were charged for items they never ordered.
Finally when our bill arrived, the rosemary potatoes were charged for twice and I felt the overall cost was an awful lot steeper than our previous visit. We left without argument but left no tip and vowed NOT to return!
The food didnt taste anything. There was no seasoning. When i got the check, i saw that i had to pay 4€ for the bread they gave me while i was waiting for the food, which i didnt order and its usually for free at other resturants
The most incredible meal and atmosphere, and a great waitstaff
Starter was good and promising.
Main dish (lasagne and carbonara) was only warm and ok'ish. Nothing special more the typical "tourist one-time never again" venue.
There is much better about. Service was good without being overly attentive but the food was pretty average. Not sure whether it was the owner or a wannabe local celebrity who arrived in his convertible Mercedes with music blaring at one stage, but he and his companion at least got the attention they were after with the high fives from waiters. Staff bringing out bags of rubbish through the outside dining area was an interesting touch too.
We had a couple of beers 1st night seemed lovely and on our penultimate night came across it again and thought we'd stay for dinner A bit of a disappointment, one of our mains was incorrect, they did rectify it, we 'd ordered 3 sides only 1 of which turned up, eventually the potatoes arrived we decided not to press for the other, My mains should have been accompanied with mushrooms, I got some salad leaves, no explanation. Everything tasted good.. We weren't the only ones who seemed to be getting the wrong things.. We did leave a reasonable tip, and the look my husband got from who appeared to the head waiter was one of disgust. Go for a beer, the food will disappoint.
