Pompeii is a must see in person and photos do not do it justice. The details and craftsmanship are hard to capture. It is a much larger city than expected. Give yourself the entire day to experience Pompeii.
I was amazed at how well preserved this ampitheater is. I also thought it was cool that pink Floyd actually made a music video here and they have a museum showing pink Floyd stuff. It is huge and we actually accidentally found it and we're amazed at how preserved it is.
I love archeology and history, and obviously this attraction has heaping servings of both.
We did not go with a guide, preferring to wander through in our own. I'd love a more detailed guide book, even if I had to spend some money to pick one up at the ticket booth, as we had to guess as to what we were looking at for the most part.
The couple of temporary exhibits were ok, on a par with what I expect in Italian attractions of this kind.
The one main food court was packed, and the service was typically slow and inefficient, but that's Italy!
Very nice historical place. Entrance 13 €\ adult. Take a free map from the desk and follow the routes.
PS. Go until the end of the site.
From Napoli central railway station, go outside to the main exit. Turn left and go down (about 100m) on the road until first bus station on the right. Here you can take a bus to the Pompeii.
You need a good 6 hours here to really get round every where. Closes at 7:30pm between June and end of September so have lunch somewhere then get here for the rest of the day. Sunset is amazing if you visit in September, like we have just done.
Until we discover time travel this is the next best thing to visit the past. This should be on everyone's bucket list for one of the places to visit in a lifetime, even our teenager children were blown away by the experience. If you can go out of season then so much the better for less crowdsand the heat!
More of a Pink Floyd exhibit. Did like the Beastie Boys part. Not sure why that's the thing they put a lot of attention to the visitor experience
We spent a whole day here exploring everything except the amphitheatre, didn't get that far. Wonderful place well signposted (also in English) love to come again, lots of the houses and vias closed such a pity. Hated the modern sculptures added all over the place but without signs saying they're modern. Very confusing especially for the children. Pity most originals are in Naples now. They must put replicas in place to put back the history and context. Great free guides. We'll worth the audio guide.
Pompeii and its amphitheatre are both absolutely amazing. We spent an entire day exploring the ruins and could happily have returned for a second if we'd had more time. A good guide book helps to keep you on top of what's going on.
Pompeii is an amazing a must see place especially the amphitheater. There is so much to see and do here you really need a full whole day if you want to get around everything. There is so much history here it was so interesting to look around and learn about each room or house.
