beautifull campsite with own litlle restaurant and tankstation. amazing views. Stayed for one night with our 4x4 with rooftent. ground is not even so try t find some stone to level.

Stayed for 1 night in a camper van during late September. Probably the quietest and least crowded place we stayed.
There is a small hotel/restaurant that you will go by as you enter, this is where reception is and where you can pay.
The camp site appeared to be still under construction during our stay but had decent facilities nonetheless. Some of them we didn't realise until the next morning because we arrived in complete darkness and there is virtually no lighting or signage at this site apart from a small light in the sink/toilet hut.
The camping area itself is a big open field (a little bumpy, so be careful if you are arriving at night). But there are a number of structures, in the Icelandic turf house style which is neat.
In the area we parked there was a turf house which had:
- 2 indoor toilets with sinks
- 2 outdoor sinks, for washing up dishes or refilling water bottles
- A dryer and washing machine around the back (though there was a sign saying the washing machine was not working)
- A clothes line is also nearby. It also has a little roof over it, which is smart. Many camp sites have a clothes line which is useless given the frequent rain. Bring your own pegs though, it gets windy!
Also inside was a couple of small rooms where it looks like the owners are going to install showers. During our stay though there were no shower facilities.
Nearby is also a small, rustic eating area with a wooden table and chairs. It is partially surrounded by wooden fencing to help shield from wind. This area could really use a light for night time though – we had some candles but the wind blew them out :(
Beyond this first turf house is another one which we didn't realise until morning, which we really regret. This second turf house is split in to two little cabins with a double bed, a small desk, chair, lamp and power points for charging your devices in each.
Given how windy, cold and dark it was outside we were really kicking ourselves that we couldn't see these cabins during the night!
Also worth mentioning, be careful on the roads around here. There were goats roaming when we came. One even came in to the camp site during the morning looking for some food! He made a big mess. As we left we saw the same goat sitting on top of someones car :O
We also encountered a white house cat, perhaps belonging to someone living nearby. He was super friendly but also happily went dumpster diving for food.response / report this review -

Lovely little campground. The toilets and kitchens have grassy roofs, and the kitchen is a traditional style building, built into the ground. Nice walks along the river, great sunsets, and a nice little Cafe. It looks like it has been set up as a stop off for all those doing the loop if Iceland and most people just stay 1 night. They've done a great job making it comfortable and with dome Icelandic style.
