  Went here to watch the aurora and it is a blessed place because it was wonderful! Very bright green and even some pink.

  Iceland is amazing country and each place in this country is special. This place is the beautiful too! You will fill the spirit of old Iceland in this ancient church. Be blessed!

  The story relates that during one night when a group of sailors tried to navigate back to Iceland in a storm. The southern coast of Iceland is notorious for its hidden reefs and rough coast. The distressed sailors prayed to God for a safe return and vowed to build a church wherever they landed. When they ended their prayer an angel, seemingly made of light, appeared before their bow. The angel guided them through the rough surfs and led them into a bay for safe landing. The sailors kept their promise and built a wooden church at the site and named it Strandarkirkja.

  Church is small and well-preserved, the interior was impeccable there are working bathrooms there and parking is close by.
  The con is that the church is well off the beaten path and there is nothing close by to justify the drive. There is a small Food Shack at the entrance off the main road across from the RV Park

  Beautiful older church. Great history (see wiki). You cannot walk through the cemetery. There are water closets under the statue.

  Great stop when driving from Grindavik to Selfoss. Saw this church while a storm was passing over the sea in front of it. Quite the sight. Church is open for visitors and donations are accepted for walking around in the beautiful structure. Would recommend a stop if driving past!
