Really a nice church. Best thing is in the cellar. Go inside the church and then to your left. You will see a doorway. Go down the stairs. There is the history of christianity in iceland. The aira outside is also intresting. A tunnel on left side. A turf house on the right side. Dont miss to go inside the church it is beautiful. Skálholt is a good 30 min stop on the Golden Circle.

Beautiful church, the biggest Catholic Church in Iceland, also one of the only church that allowing us to enter the church. There is a small turf house beside the church, too bad there's no explanation on the function of this turf house. Interesting part is there is a small tunnel on the side of the church, also no explanation of this tunnel. Beautiful landscape around, worth the detour and spend some time here.

The rooms are a cozy lodge style. Don't expect anything modern. The Wi-Fi is very fast and the view is stunning. There is a lot of moss on the grass and many mountains around. It's a one hour ish drive out from Reykjavik so the surroundings a very quiet and pristine. From my experience, the beds are also very comfy. I give it 3 stars because the building I'm staying km is very far from the main building where meals are served. This is quite inconvenient but if u manage to get a room in the main building, you will be closer to the dining hall. ( the main building doesn't have as good of a view though ) . I hope this has helped you (　^ω^)

The cathedral isn't all that exciting to look at from the outside, but the interior is beautiful. There is also a more traditional structure next door. The views from the cathedral steps are good too.

What a wonderful and modest church, archeological site and village. The entrance to the Museum inside the church has a box asking you to contribute to it with cash (300 kr/p as far as I remember) which I recommend. When we went there today (2017/01/18) there was no one in sight, inside nor outside, but some postcards available in the entrance hall of the church as well, with the same honor system of the cash box (100kr/card I believe). There is a very cute (and opened!) Viking looking house on the left of the church that is very picturesque too. The bathroom is in another building, which also asks for donations as you enter and use it. All in all and besides all these donation boxes, this place is very beautiful and has a very intense (and important I believe) place in the history and religion history of Iceland. I highly recommend it!

A nice Cathedral with an interesting history which is well laid out for visitors. Make sure you don't go in the main entrance but round to the right where you'll find the historic underground entrance leading you through the exhibit underneath the building.

This is a very nice cathedral in one of Iceland's most important historic sites. It seems to be located in the middle of nowhere (similar to almost anywhere in Iceland). Beautiful landscapes around here.
