Awesome pool! Definitely a great stop if you have the time.

The hike out is a pretty simple hike, you will have to cross a few streams/rivers. Maximum of a half hour hike.

The pool itself is just warmer than lukewarm. Highly suggest swimming close to the pipe that is pumping in the hot water.

Additionally the road to the parking lot is in pretty rough shape, so be prepared to drive slow. It's rocky with many potholes.

Such a wonderful pool. Yes pool, not hot tub. It's not hot at all. We went in April and it's freezing to get in and out of. Fun times though. The changing rooms also feel like something out of a summer camp horror film, but that just adds to the experience.

Very beautiful area and pretty unique experience to swim in a pool attached to a mountain! As per other reviews, be prepared for the algae and unkept change rooms - it’s too bad people don’t clean up after themselves. There is a donation box there but I don’t think anyone carries money here while traveling - it’s too bad they don’t have a better system as I’d have happily donated to the upkeep!

Beautiful pool in unique location. This is not a hot spring for soaking, tho, it is a warm pool in a very special location. We visited during the Easter weekend and it was not too crowded but the changing rooms were dirty and had a lot of beer cans in the corners on the floor. There is one place where the pool above the cliff and hot water runs down into the pool camera and there is a pipe that delivers hot water to the pool as well. If you read this far there is a payoff -- if you travel upstream beyond the pool, there is one small hot spring fed by a pipe that fits two people. Going from the hot spring into the cold glacier water is a rush.

This was one of my favourite places in Iceland! The swimming pool was crazy! My favourite part was sitting back and enjoying the amazing view of the mountains, it’s just breathtaking! I went around the afternoon, nothing like a good ol’ matinee swim, and it was super windy but if you keep your head above water you will stay warm. I recommend wearing a tuque when swimming and just do all your swimming without dunking your head.

The water was around 20 degrees Celsius and you got waves of hot and cold, like you were sitting next to a guy peeing in a lake. Sounds weird but quite relaxing.

The change rooms are utterly disgusting but, they are change rooms. Your not swimming in them, or sleeping in them. Just get in and get out fast.

Hard to find the trail in winter but stick by the river and you'll find it. Really cool spot on the side of a volcano. Not warm enough to swim in in February but nice for a foot soak.

The walk to get to this pool takes less than a half hour. We followed the footprints in the snow to get there. It is in a beautiful location. However this pool was too cold to swim in for me in February. The water was lukewarm if that. It would be lovely in non freezing temperatures. It is a shame that people have left garbage in the changing rooms, it was rather gross. There were also spots of yellow snow all along the back of the changing rooms. Iceland attracts tourists and overcharges for food and hotel rooms, yet cannot provide bathrooms for the hundreds of tourists visiting these sites every day. It really is a shame on the tourists and Icelands tourism industry. Moving on, the pool looked like it had been quite some time since it was cleaned as the bottom was littered with things such as a bathing suit, a sock, algae, and a watch. I am not certain I would swim in it ever. Regardless it was beautiful and I appreciate that it was built and that it was there in such a wonderful location for considerate tourists to enjoy. The tourists who leave behind their trash need to stay home, they ruin the experience for everyone. You know who you are, thumbs down to those who litter.

Lovely walk along fast flowing stream with spectacular views of the basalt rock formations. Continue further up along the side or the stream and you find the pool that is no longer "heated" due to an imbalance of hot and cold water. Oh well, the walk was still worth it.

Beautiful spot, very short walk on a basically marked path, wasn’t too busy when we went. Great and memorable part of our trip in Iceland.

Also - For those leaving less than 5 stars for this free and community upheld pool due to litter in the changing rooms or dirty clothes left, to your part and take some garbage into town with you. Treat it just like a public park and do your part :)

A lovely little tucked away pool, but no longer a hot spring. Nearly all the hot water has been diverted to the lodge below, leaving just a trickle coming down the natural falls that once fed this pool. A single hose feeds water into one corner of the pool now, and warms no more than about a 1 foot radius. Fun to visit, freezing to actually get in.

The stunning landscape makes the short walk to the pool worthwhile. The pool itself is cooler than expected and the changing "rooms" full of garbage. There are much better pools in Iceland, but the landscape is absolutely beautiful.

It's it steamy hot? No but it is beautiful! You gotta jump in for the experience and get close to the warm water pipes in the corner. The walk here is amazing. The mountains stare down at you like from lord of the rings. One of the most beautiful hotsprings we went too. Make sure to take time to explore the area as well!

Magnificent place, to discover absolutely.
Easily accessible after about twenty minutes of walking.
Negative point, changing rooms just horrible.
A big thanks to the tourists who leave these changing rooms in a pathetic state.
Plan plastic bags to rest on the ground to change without getting dirty.

The water is warm(ish) and the spot is really cool. The changing room is free to use and most of the people didn't care about it, was quite dirty. If you go there, please keep it clean!!

It was rainy and cold so everyone was huddled in a corner by the 1 heated water pipe. The changing rooms were trashed and dirty. Despite that, I still loved the experience! It's tucked away in such a beautiful valley with fewer tourist than most of Iceland's attractions (it is kinda hard to find). Would recommend going if you're feeling adventurous!

A very nice spot and a great idea, but the pools surface area is way to large so the small hose that provides the natural hot water isn't enough to keep it warm. So expect it to be a little bit below comfortable. Change rooms where full of trash so we were all confined to one room.. Despite all that I'd definitely go again. It's a great spot and looks so cool.

The walk is truly beautiful. Wild enough to be fun, but not scary for those of us who aren't hikers. The pool has algae in it--you're in a natural spring. Not really a big deal. The water is perfectly warm, at least in late August. Felt like a nice bath!

But visitors: throw your stuff away somewhere else, not in the changing rooms! No one should have to stand next to your used tampons and beer cans. Disgusting.

The best pool I have ever been in. Beautifully located in a remote location. The 10 mine drive over bad road and the 15 minute walk only adds to the experience. The water is comfortable of a little green. There are rooms to change but not much privacy. Also not gender separated. I would recommend this to everybody, but I hope it stays a bit of a hidden gem.

While it's nice to find a free pool with warmish water in the mountain, the water temperature was actually a bit disappointing. It was probably around 21-22 degrees Celsius, while they could easily bring a bit more hot water to keep it warmer.
Also visitors do not seem to give the respect this isolated place requires and the changing rooms were filled with empty bottles and cans. I'm all for having fun everywhere, but if you pack it in, you need to pack it out (I promise that empty beer cans are much lighter than the full ones you carried to the site).
The mountains around the pool are so nice that they make the very short hike worth it, even if you don't go for a dip.

Hidden and incredible, however, it is significantly lacking in upkeep. Unfortunately, too many people are leaving all of their trash behind. There is no WC, which is a problem as well, as guests leave toilet paper scattered everywhere. I want to fix this place up and make it great again!

I still recommend the experience, just don't be "that" person.

Nice easy walk with beautiful scenery. No problem for children. Pool is warm but not quite warm enough. Also there is some algae in the pool but it's not too bad. It would probably be better for swimming if it had a higher rate of circulation with more hot water.

Go for the walk and the scenery, which are mesmerizing. The pool was clearly unattended. It was green in colour, and not warm enough. If you'd like to swim in a pool / hot springs, there are much better options in the north or south west of Iceland.

This is hard to get directions to but worth a visit. It is a magical spot for a natural hot spring pool. It's free and has changing rooms. Only downside is that there are only two sources of water (the pipe pumping the natural water and natural water flowing in from the mountain) so one end of the pool is lukewarm.

Anyone who gives this place less than 5 stars doesn't know how to enjoy life. It's amazing, go and swim. Please be respectful and keep it clean! Go early early in the morning to avoid too many people, it's not very big.

A very romantic idea but in a big need of maintenance. As it stands now (January 2017), the changing rooms ended up into public toilets and the water far from what one would imagine to get from a thermal pool. You need to be very motivated to get in (I'm sure the water temperature is more user friendly in the summer). The access is not easy as crossing the river (the bridge is broken) can be a challenge.
Definitively a 5 stars location if the locals, authorities and more important the tourists will be more respectful and supportive to this place.
