We came in for drinks, this was the cutest little establishment! We loved every detail from their handdrawn menus and mismatched chairs to the butter served on a rock. Only one of us had food but she loved the seafood soup in a crock.

The food here is superb. The restaurant is lovely and cosy, the staff are very nice and I can't say enough about the quality of food. Iceland is strange in this regards - it can cost an arm and a leg for fairly average fair in a bog standard place but then if you double the cost you get food and an experience many times that. Everything about this place is great.

Fantastic fish soup. I was full from just the dinner serving of it without any app or dessert. My love had scallops appetizer and it was devine with all sorts of wonderful flavor combinations. It was enough to satisfy her for dinner.

Super cosy and cute! What a little place and amazing fresh and local seafood. If you like seafood this is a must.
The misses had the chicken casserole which was also absolutely amazing.
The staff is good with English and very nice, but it is the atmosphere that puts it over the top. If you are lucky enough to get a window seat you can enjoy the sun setting over the mountains (at least in the fall).

My wife and I were on a 17 day self-drive, around Iceland, when we found this place. If there were a rating for 10 STARS, this would be it. The atmosphere was the best, the staff beyond belief, and the food even better. DON"T miss dining here. And yes, when we return to Iceland, we will be back!!!

This was a really fun place to eat. Built into a fancy vintage house which has been relocated several times. I caught them on a busy night and I was by myself, so they figured out that I could be seated in one of the little loft rooms up the stairs, which had a chimney running through it, a window, and all kinds of interesting knicknacks in it. Had to duck way down low to go up there, but it was a memorable experience which added a unique bit of flavor to my trip. The seafood soup was delicious. The butter for the bread was served on a smooth stone. The staff were very nice once again.

Very nice and pleasant restaurant with friendly staff.
Had the 3 course meal and the scallops light meal.
The 3 course meal came with seafood soup, mussels and fried redfish. The seafood soup had a strong taste of lobster and wine (which was really nice). Mussels were well cooked and tasted fresh, in a salty wine sauce. Redfish was well cooked with a garlicky sauce.
    Scallops were fresh and sweet.
Finished off with the rhubarb cake, which was also nice.
Overall it was a really nice meal, but not quite the best I've had here in Iceland. All the same, certainly worth a visit!

This is the most wonderful restaurant I've ever been to. Words cannot describe it, you'll have to see it for yourself. Absolutely amazing authentic decor. The chef came out of the kitchen to welcome us and gave us a tour of the upstairs, which is like a tiny family museum. The food was great too. I would totally make a day trip from Reykjavik just to eat at this restaurant.

The report from Gina below is complete B.S. her statements are impossible.
    1-worms don't "run".
2 impossible to get a hair inside a mussel.
The only explanation for this review is she's an owner, or a friend of the owner, of a competing restaurant.
The chef's attention to detail is up impeccable and is clear once you see his presentation and taste the fare. It would be impossible for him to serve a dish with worms running everywhere. I've reported Gina and hope her review is removed.
This place is fantastic, and I'm from Charleston, SC, a place known for fantastic food. I'd put this up against any restaurant in Charleston. Hands down.

This restaurant is absolutely amazing. This is our 10th day in Iceland and this was by far the best meal we had!! For Iceland, the menu was reasonably priced. The service was excellent, and the atmosphere was especially friendly. If you are in the area, Bjargarsteinn is a must!

Great views and great food. They also accommodated our daughter letting us bring her food in due to her allergies. They accommodated gluten free and dairy free with great taste. Wait staff were very helpful and the view is outstanding. We saw seals from our window in front of Kirkjufell. We ate there two nights in a row.

Wonderful experience. Great food, superb setting, amazing view, nice staff. This place is a hit. It will have to enlarge soon because people love it. And it is not more expensive than other ordinary restaurants in Iceland. All dishes were very good but dessert was delicious. If you are over there please do try to pick a table for dinner.

I didn't expect a whole lot coming in due to what I perceived as a relatively remote location in western Iceland - this was my first trip to the country so I didn't quite have my Icelandic bearings about me yet. Regardless of where you put this place, however, it would measure up very well. The food and service were first class. The cod was flavorful and cooked to perfection. The local lamb fell right off the bone and melted in my mouth. The backdrop of Kirkjufell and the North Atlantic were breathtaking. And considering all this, the price was incredibly reasonable. I will come back to Iceland again, and I will certainly come back to Bjargar-stein.

Absolutely amazing food. Breathtaking presentation as well as view of Mt. Kirkjufell. Wonderful staff who make you feel at home though you are likely far from it.
Attached photos of Lamb Shank. Perfect.

Lovely cozy restaurant. Both service and food is top notch. I wanted to order the muscles but they're not in season during the winter. Please listen to the recommendations of the waitress, she was spot on with every dish she recommended. The restaurant has a great view of water and mountains. Loved the decor!

This was the most amazing and charming meal my friends and I have had after traveling the ring road. Our servers were so sweet and polite. And the food so delicious, we cleaned the food entirely off our plates.

From outside I almost didn't think this was a restaurant because it has such homely charm. The head chef hand draws their menu every few months as it changes, adding so much more personality to this again already charming place!

I cannot recommend a more delicious and thought-felt meal in all of Iceland.
