Very nice staff. Economy rooms (think former US barracks) but clean and comfortable. BE SURE to pre-book your shuttle or you could be waiting for some time at the airport.

What you pay is what you get. It is simple but okay. The rooms are a bit small but the bed is great. We shared the bathroom and toilet with 1 other room.
Good to know: there is no restaurant in the hotel

We arrived 2 hours early & the hostess happily checked us in. The accommodations are better than the pictures. I would highly recommend for layovers greater than 12 hours. I will certainly be returning. 👍

NOTE: Book your airport transport! It is US$6.00 per person & well worth the effort before you get here rather than organize it after you are at the airport.

We got stuck staying at the Base “hotel” after being stranded by WOW airlines in Iceland. It’s in a former army barracks with shared bathrooms and little to no access to any other businesses at all. It’s a long way from Reykjavik (40+ km) and the nearest bus stop is a 10 minute walk away. The atmosphere is dingy and the rooms are tiny. Probably ok for student backpackers but completely substandard for anyone else. Interesting note: WOW airlines owns the place and it’s much more of a hostel than hotel. WOW dumps all their stranded passengers there on a routine basis. At least two other groups of stranded passengers arrived in the 20 hours we were there. A completely depressing place. Stay away.

We stayed at Base for one night at the start of our trip and one night at the end because it was the cheapest place in the area, and was near to the airport. It's basic accommodation - more of a hostel than a hotel - but served its purpose. Unlike other accommodation in the area, they don't offer a free shuttle to the airport, but a shuttle is available for 600 ISK per person each way. We were in a private room with shared bathroom where it was warm, and we also had a fridge. The kitchen facilities were basic, but there was enough available to cook a simple meal. There isn't much in the area, but if you have a car there is a complex within a couple of minutes drive with a petrol station, some supermarkets, and fast food. It's basic, but does the job, so would recommend if you're looking for somewhere cheap.

Base Hotel is a good place to stay if you need to stay close to Keflavik airport. The accomodation was fairly basic but a good price. We had a nice room that was warm and fairly comfortable. We had a bathroom that we shared with one other room. My only complaint would be that the pillows weren't very good, they were flat and didn't provide any support. The staff were friendly too.

Arrived early morning and was greeted by two wonderful hostess's. We were in early but they were nice enough to accommodate us and get us checked in earlier than usual. The room and shared bathroom was clean, and was cleaned daily. All staff was pleasant and friendly. This was my first time Hostel experience. I liked being outside of Reykjavik. I will be back to stay here again in the very near future!

This is great place to stay near the airport for the money. Our room was pretty big and we shared a bathroom with another singe room. The shared kitchen was well appointed and had what we needed to prepare meals. There are two grocery stores nearby. I was pleasantly surprised by the whole experience and will definitely stay again if I'm in the area.

This is a perfectly convenient dormitory style hostel. I had a private bedroom in a suite which shared a toilet and shower with another guest. We had a heavy locked door to the hallway and each of the bedrooms also had a locked door. Our schedule didn't conflict with the other guest, but I can imagine having shower conflicts if both rooms wanted to use the shared bathroom at similar times. There was a shared kitchen which had many cups, mugs, plates, and bowls available. There are no shops in the area near this hostel. The reception area had some snacks and refreshments, but these are outrageously expensive. Better to stock up in a super market before arriving. The hotel offers hourly airport shuttles and the distance to the terminal is about 8 minutes. A ticket is Kr. 600 per person.

Hotel is conveniently located near the airport, and is cheap. What else do you need for your stopover? Oh right, free wifi and cheap beer! They boast the cheapest beer in town, but since I read plenty of blogs about Iceland I knew to stop at duty free. Everyone does this. It's insane. And it will save you a ton of money. But some snacks and some wine or beer on your way out for your stopover, and then in the way back home grab more Icelandic booze as souvenirs.

The hotel had very friendly staff, and it was really cool to be on an old base, we had fun learning about it. The beds were comfy and the rooms were very clean, as was the bathroom.

Would stay again even on a longer trip to Iceland--since renting a car is the most economical way to get around!

One of the best hostel I've ever been. We arrived at midnight but the staff was really kind and welcoming. My girlfriend and I booked a dormitory but we have been very kindly upgraded at no extra cost because they had a double room available. The hostel is very close to the airport (can't walk there though), it's a 6min drive. They offer a cheap airport shuttle (600kr). The place is well decorated, the room was well equipped with good bedding and even a bathroom shared with another double bed room. We highly recommend.

Base hotel is typically a “hostel”. It had all the basic facilities that you need. It has a very interesting history though. The people are very friendly. The bar is open 24/7. It’s very closely located to the airport. It’s also provides people with an airport shuttle.

Purposeful hotel close to Keflavik airport handy if you just arrived or a night before your early flight or if you want a cheap base for your trip. Free parking is available and a functional kitchen with all the usual supplies. Friendly staff and lively reception/bar area if you want to chill. Private rooms and dorm style accommodation is available at very low prices. Several supermarkets and petrol stations are nearby for your essentials and a 24/7 Subway should you feel peckish at silly o’clock in the morning. Only 24/7 place I recall seeing in Iceland from my 3 trips.

Reasonably priced. Close to airport. Definitely a hostel type vibe. Lots of young travelers. No elevator, that was a problem for us since we had a ton of gear / pelican cases.

the hostel is clean and quiet, but the location is not good unless you have a car. we couldn't find the shuttle from the airport, so we had to take a taxi for 30 kr. there is only one restaurant within a mile and it's pretty terrible. the play room is not for kids, which frustrated me because i booked it specifically because i thought my preschooler would enjoy the play room

very bro-y place, lots of dudes, other guests are not friendly.

This is a hostel/hotel, so nothing fancy, but clean and quiet. It definitely still looks like the military barracks it was converted from, with fresh paint and carpet. We stayed twice. The first time in the red building. It was great. The second time in the blue building and it wasn't as good. The blue building definitely looks more run down, and the room didn't have as many things (fridge, dresser, table). In both, we had a private room with shared bathroom. It was only two rooms sharing and we almost never heard the other person. The bathroom was clean, but the shower curtains smelled strongly of mold. Clean, quiet, decent for a hostel-hotel.

It's a cheap hotel. It serves it's purpose. Beds are comfortable and the covers are super fluffy and comfortable. The front desk is friendly and helpful. My ONE complain and note to anyone staying: BRING EAR PLUGS. The walls are SUPER thin and your also next to an airport. As side from that we enjoyed our stay.

I booked a six person female dorm. I had arrived an hour after check in and found my room to have not been cleaned. Following that theme, the shared bathrooms were absolutely grimy and had trash, hair, and dirt everywhere; so much so that it was almost comical. While comfortable, the room did not have a single power outlet and when I asked for a key for one of the lockers on the room, I was unable to get one. Saying that, the space is promising and has a cool vibe and the guy working the counter was very helpful. The bar is also super cheap which was nice.

Base Hotel / Hostel is a great place to stay if you're going to stay around Reykjavik. It's cheap, the rooms are clean and everything looks new and renovated. The best thing about this place is the hospitality. The receptionist was very helpful in providing information and even called places for me to find out if they were open. Richard, the owner and manager is especially nice and offered me a ride into town and gave a quick list of things to do and check out, but this worked out because he was leaving work for the day anyways. He and the receptionist attended the guests with the greatest of customer service. They really turned this previously military base into a great and comfortable place to stay.

Great place to stay for airport stopovers. Large clean rooms, and great location close to the airport. Slightly quirky design reflects the former use as an air force base. There's a bar, and a convenience store, so you can get a drink and sandwiches etc. There is also a restaurant within walking distance.

Great place to stay near the airport cheaply! The staff during my stay were extremely kind and helpful and all spoke English as well as Icelandic. Just bear in mind, this is a basic hotel so there's no breakfast, no Corby Trouser Press, and no tea and coffee making facilities in the room. You'll even need to bring your own shower gel/shampoo. But what the heck, it's better than sleeping in an airport chair if you have a layover. The beds are comfy and clean.
You will need a taxi/car to get from the airport to the hotel as it's a very long walk!

Don't book here if you're expecting a fine, luxury hotel. If you want great bang for your buck, this is the place for you. As far a budget stays go, this is 5 stars.

You can see the airport from the hostel, it is less than 30 min away from the Blue Lagoon, and less than an hour from Reykjavik. There is a really great food joint, called Langholt,
just a 10-min walk away too. There is a "play room" with ping pong and other games as well. The lobby has a bar, serves some food, serves coffee, and has some info on local car rentals and other touristy stuff. There is also a pay phone. The hostel is split between two buildings with the lobby/check-in desk in the pink building.

We stayed in a three person room with a private bathroom. It was plenty big with three twin beds, good lighting, comfy beds, large bathroom with hot showers, and good heating. It was on the third floor. There was live music and a St. Patrick's Day celebration going on downstairs (ended around 11p) but the third floor was perfectly quiet.

Hostel or hotel, call it what you like. Either way, it's a great stay for a great price. Not a problem to speak of.

This place is right off the airport and the rental car companies, it is close to the Blue lagoon. Very close to Bonus supermarket which has free coffee. You can stay in a private room with bathroom/shower or in mixed rooms or all male all female rooms. We stayed in a private room . There is a kitchen and they have installed an electric stove top. Which is the best improvement to staying here. It also has a bar and you can pay for breakfast.
