A little cafe at the start of the trail to Solheimajokull. Per their website, all food is made on site. They serve cakes, hot chocolate, soup, quiche, and sandwiches. This is a great spot to rest before or after the roughly 15 minutes hike to or from the edge of the glacier. This area is also used by various tour companies as a meeting point for individuals who will be participating in a glacier hike or climb. Per the website, opening hours are 9:30 am to 5:00 pm daily. Restrooms are also available.
It's a café at the bottom of a glacier contained in a simple porta cabin. It's small but warm and serves hot drinks that are self service. Soups and hot dogs as well as cold drinks, cakes and cold sandwiches. The staff are friendly and and work quickly as is necessary as there can be quite an influx of people all at once when a tour bus arrives.
The hotdogs are good as they seem to be all over Iceland as is the coffee. If you have a little time to wait for your guide of you are going up onto solheimajokull then it's worth grabbing a quick bite. It's 400isk (£3) for a coffee 600isk (£4.50) for a hot chocolate and of memory serves 1200isk (£9) for a hotdog with everything, pretty good value for Iceland especially as it's captive market with nothing else about!
Oh it's not a bad view from the window either 😁
Was great for a quick cup of coffee or tea. Stopped in for just a bit.
Small little cafe right at the entrance to the glaciers trail.. food are sold out when i'm there, otherwise it would be great to have warm food in the chilly weather..
A nice stop on the way out to walk on the glacier, good variety of small snacks and good coffee.
Oh man! In the middle of literally no where, amidst biting cold, a steaming cup of coffee and free WiFi, it is just amazing. Clean restrooms.( None around for about 70 kms around) . In absolute terms, it may be expensive, but from the remoteness, restaurant and WiFi, it is a steal. Please visit and encourage them. Good belss those adventurous folks.
Exelent roadshop with great servise 😊
Service was a little slow considering we were on a bus tour on a schedule. Food was good. Signature stew was delicious. Very expensive as are all restaurants in Iceland.
Cool little restaurant at the start of the glacier. Very good food, and very friendly people. Neat spot.
It is a rainy day and our hiking plans changed. We found this by accident . Hot chocolate was very good and grilled toast ok. The view is nice. Was definitely a good choice to relax and take refugee.
Can get noisy with a lot of people
The road up to here is tar. Has a huge parking lot. Enjoy the view!
Tiny place but if you need a cup of coffee and you can't wait an hour to get anywhere else, this works. Toilets too.
Great soup! Very nice grilled sandwich. View of the glacier is good.
You don't have a choice. If you don't want to be outdoors, this is your only option. It's quite small, lines can get long, but when the weather is "Icelandic" outside, it's your only refuge. They are cool about not insisting you buy something if you just need a place to hide.
Good place for a break when you return from a windy trip. Prices are not bad for the Iceland. Small choice of food dishes.
This cafe has great hot chocolate. It's right at the base where glacier walking tours start. It's slightly expensive (not really for Iceland standards though) but I'd feel fine supporting what they've done. The line to the bathrooms can get long. It's a nice small cafe particularly good because of its location (it's the only one near the glacier)
The short road from the ring road that leads to the parking lot can get icy, so go slow. The glacier is accessible after walking for about 15'-30' depending on the weather conditions, in early March, it was a little icy and slippery but definitely worth the walk. We didn't get a tour to go on top of the glacier, which we should have, but it was still nice to be able to get so close without the need for any special equipment.
The glacier looks absolutely stunning. In the winter it's best if it hasn't snowed for a while or if the rain has washed away the snow because the blue colour of the ice is something else. Our tour guide, Olaf, was really nice and we all felt very safe with him.
Very nice walk down to the glacier, but need a good shoes and hiking equipment if you wanna go up the glacier. Very nice view.
