The early history of the El-Gölü is not clear. However, it seems that the lake originally was used as a water resource for agricultural purposes. In old times . there was an artificial island with a small palace in the middle of the lake which was used as royal summer palace during the Qajar dynasty (when Tabriz was the official residence of the Prince of Iran).

A great place for walking and hanging out with friends and picnic but not a good place for a date because police will arrest you there because having a gf/bf is forbidden in iran so you have to be very careful there

"El Guli" is this park's new name & "Shah Guli" is its old name. This is a historical park & it is one of Tabriz's city icons.
El means People
Shah means King
Guli means Park
all in Turkish.

This is definitely the best city park in Tabriz. You should visit here specially in the summer evenings. There are lots of trees, flowers and other plants making the air quite fresh there. In the evenings, many local families go there to take a walk. There is also an artificial lake in the middle of the park, where you can board on some small boats and enjoy your short visit. The park has been expanded recently and now is much bigger than it was in the past. There also another park across the highway, which is connected to this park with a bridge.

great park with an artificial lake in the middle. Climbing the stairs you will enjoy a beautiful panorama of Tabriz. Sunset is the best time to enjoy it.
