I don't know about the Iranian side, but the Bahdra side in Iraq is nothing to write home about. At the border crossing, there is a "no man's land" between the Iranian gate and the Iraqi gate. The no man's land is less than a hundred yards long, but when those crossing the border get to congested in that area, the Iranian troops walk through and start shooting in the air to get people to move along. On the Iraqi side, I was able to purchase a 9' by 13' Persian rug for $100 (U.S.). The merchant thought he was ripping me off, but I didn't tell him an authentic Persian rug from Iran that size could fetch ten to fifteen thousand dollars in the States. All in all, if you get the chance to go, pass.
