The Slemani Museum was established in 14/7/1961.
It was first placed in downtown Slemani. After that it moved to its current building in Salem Street in 1979.
Due to the Iraq-Iran War, the Museum was closed between 1980 and 1988.
After the war, it was re-opened.
Shortly after it was closed again because the invasion of Kuwait, the Gulf war and consequently Kurdistan uprising until its re-opening in 20/8/2000
