History
Navnath Mitra Mandal consists of people from the Erandawane gaothan – this is an old locality which existed even before the area exploded in terms of population, traffic and buildings. For the past 31 years, Navnath has celebrated Ganesh festival with a unique and dazzling display of grandeur that attracts a steady stream of visitors. Over the years, Navnath’s Pandal is recognized as one of the leading displays in this part of Pune.
Recognition
Navthan Mitra Mandal has won several awards and prizes from honorable institutions such as –
• Shrimant Dagdu Sheth Trust – Consolation prize for excellent display and decoration for years 1995, 2000 and 2001
• Pune Municipal Corporation – 2nd prize for most disciplined immersion procession for year 2000
• Pune Police – 2nd prize for compliance to all statutory requirements and permissions for year 2000
Social activities
Navnath Mitra Mandal is ever active in several social spheres throughout the year –
• Ganesh Pandal – 31 years of an exceptional displays at a prime location of Pune attracting a huge number of spectators.
• Food program – We arrange meals on certain days for a large number of inmates of orphanages or old people’s homes.
• Dattak Yojana – For the past 8 years, we have covered the entire educational expenditure of about 11 school going children with a single parent or from poor income groups. Our contribution includes school fee, uniform, footwear, books, stationary, school bag – each and every thing that the student may need during the year.
• Educational support - Distribution of notebooks and textbooks for students, grants for meeting admission and other expenditures, helping in securing admissions in prestigious institutions – we help wherever we can.
• Health support - assisted in blood donation camps, organized eye testing camps, arranged funds for emergency medical procedures and working towards setting up of a substantial amount needed for meeting admission expenses for patients.
• Public Awareness campaign - We organized the display of attractive flex banners carrying messages for saving the environment, encouraging traffic discipline and similar socially relevant causes on the road divider between Mhatre Bridge and Nal Stop. These are read daily by lakhs of road users and serve to increase awareness about these critical topics. The messages were also printed on stickers for wide distribution.
• Emergency Relief - Always ready to assist, feed and look after the people affected by natural calamities such as flooding of the nearby low lying areas.
