National Institute of Fashion Technology is a group of fashion colleges in India. It was established in 1986 under the aegis of the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India and is an institution of design, management and technology for the international fashion business.NIFT was granted statutory status in 2006, empowering it to award degrees and other academic distinctions.OrganisationNIFT currently has 16 campuses: its main campus in New Delhi, and campuses at Bangalore, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Gandhinagar, Hyderabad, Jodhpur, Kangra, Kannur, Kolkata, Mumbai, Patna, Raebareli, Shillong, and Srinagar.A new 17th NIFT Campus at Panchkula, Haryana has been announced by the Minister of Textiles. A new center in Ompora Industrial area, Kashmir, too, is expected to come up.The Institute is currently headed by a director-general, Sarada Muraleedharan.
