Our Story
Livingstone Shaiza is a Tangkhul Naga from Manipur. They came to Goa in 2008 from Ukhrul like thousands of other migrant workers from the Northeast. Livingstone worked as a waiter and Ruth worked in the beauty industry. The working hours were long and living conditions precarious because work was seasonal.
Against all odds he became the owner of a Thai restaurant Oriental. Here he learnt the secrets of Thai cuisine from a celebrated Thai chef. But he wanted a restaurant to also serve authentic cuisines from Northeast India. And with the help of friends and their prayers he is now the proud owner of Meiphung Oriental.
Meiphung means Hearth or Fireplace. It is the place where food is cooked, meat and vegetables are smoked and preserved, elders tell their stories to the children, the youth sing and court, and the family and friends warm themselves as they eat a hearty meal.
Meiphung Oriental brings the best of Northeastern Indian cuisines and Thai delicacies. The two cuisines have many similarities in the way they use herbs and spices. We also serve classic Europeans favourites. Meiphung Oriental is where East meets West.
Welcome to Meiphung Oriental!
