Basically it can no longer be called a zoo, because they don't have enough animals. They have penguins but for that too you've got 10 to 20 secs of allotted time. Then the have plenty of birds, few elephants which stand far away from you and can be hardly seen, they also have some monkeys.
If you consider it as a garden then its a peaceful place to be in.

It has only very less number of animals but it is well known for its plant and is one of the botanical garden in mumbai. Penguins are now added to attract people.

August 2017 updated ..Carry your own water bottles.. be prepared for extensive walking inside.. Penguins are centre of attraction but you will not find any or very few sign boards for Penguins.. Entry fee hiked to Rs 50 per adult and 25 for kids.. facilities inside are improving to keep standards high.. better managed and maintained compared to national park..worth spending a day thanks BMC

Nice place to visit Renovated after a long period of time..trees are named with name plate. Will request authorities to tag statue of animals to be named with name plate as chimpanzee is called as monkeys by the visitors 😅

Good place for kids to enjoy for a day. The attractions are Penguins, hippocampus and variety of birds. But overall it's not maintained well. It can be way better than what they have now.

This place is beginning to get better. I can not assure a very good time at the zoo. It is okay. But you can go see the penguins. But this zoo and botanical gardens is a great place for morning walks. You can get a pass made for a meagre Rs. 30 per month. Make sure you carry your pass in the mornings (yes, they do check it). The timing is 6 - 8:30.
