Sir Leonard Rogers FRS (1868-1962) was a founder member of the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, and its President from 1933 to 1935. Rogers had a wide range of interests in tropical medicine, from the study of kala-azar epidemics to snake venoms, but is best known for pioneering the treatment of cholera with hypertonic saline, which has saved a multitude of lives. Rogers was one of the pioneers in setting up the School of Tropical Medicine in India. The foundation stone was laid on 24 February, 1914 by Lord Carmichael, the then Governor of Bengal. Accordingly, the hospital section of the institute is known as Carmichael Hospital for Tropical Diseases.
Eminent researchers like Sir Leonard Rogers, Sir R Knowels, Sir UN Bramhachari, Sir Ronald Ross, Prof. RN Chopra, Prof JB Chatterjee, Prof AB Chaudhury did fundamental research in this institution on various tropical diseases and are remembered globally for their inventions. The Researchers and Faculty of the institutions are now holding the flagship to continue with the world class fundamental research.
The prestigious institution is now in its 100th year and the centenary celebration is being made through various programs.
Already been 6 months since I dropped out of the college, I couldn't even attend a single day as my 1st day in CSTM overlapped with my 1st day of job as a Postmaster in the Department of Posts, maybe I wasn't meant to be here😅
The Calcutta School Of Tropical Medicine shares it's premises with the Kolkata Medical College and Hospital,a vast compound with numerous buildings and easy to get lost in( I couldn't find the student section on the day of my documents verification)so maybe ask the guards and students around if you don't want to wander aimlessly for hours😂
Usually there's a long queue of people waiting for treatment especially in skin disorders( quite well known for it). There are canteens all over the compound for both people here for treatment and students studying here.
Courses offered:
MD, PhD, DM, MPhil, Fellowship, UG(Refer to the College website for information on courses and seat intake)
For those wondering, yes it is a government college affiliated to the West Bengal University of Health Science.

Hope, it will help.
One of most best outdoor doctor's chember in Kolkata, all doctors are well and very polite and most of important they have the exact knowledge of treatment. The system and the management is very good. Wednesday and Saturday is for male patients outdoor and Monday and Thursday for female patients.
You have to wait for around 3 hrs for consultation. However, the fees are only 2 rs and you will be satisfied with your treatment. However, non-generic medicines are hard to find at the college pharmacies and you might have to pay a larger amount to get them from outside.
200 years old primitive hospital, started it's journey through the research of tropical disease in British India, very well researchers scholars, noble laureates visited this institute...
It is the best government hospital for the treatment of skin diseases. However, it will take a long time. You have to be patient for at least three hours.
Tropical medicine Dr or other skin Dr are very best treatment on medical ☺️☺️☺️
Very good staff. You can get very expensive medicines at a cheap rate.
Cons: sometimes the prescribed medicines are not available but you can get same composition medicines.
Went for my second jab. Excellent facilities. Very systematically carried out the vaccination. Receptive staff and the arrangements for post vaccination was up to the mark. I would recommend every one to use this facility.
It's the best for all types of skin deases in Kolkata.
This is One of the BEST Dermatology /Skin Care treatment Centre in the world...... This center takes only 2 rupees & treats all kinds of Skin problems...They are like God to the patient of any Skin related problems... I get perfect cure from Ringworm & Dandruff issue... But only their problem is many patients come & they have approx 130 seats only & around 500up patients appear to them... It is very difficult to line-up and very awful during Summer & Rainy day... Otherwise they are Like Magician to the patients 👍
👉FOR WOMEN & up to 12 YEARS BABY>>MONDAY & THURSDAY👈
👉FOR MEN>>WEDNESDAY & SATURDAY 👈
👉BOOKING STARTS FROM 9 am
Medical services (mainly for Dermatology) is excellent but management from registration upto doctor assessment is so poor that it will consume your ample of time (minimum 4 hours waiting on the queue even for OPD services of 10 minutes)
Don’t forget to get assessed by a Professor/assistant professors otherwise big no by any student doctor, because after spending too much time on a long queue it is just useless to be examined by an intern or junior inexperienced doctor.
Request to the Director and administration:
There is an urgent need for adaption of modern and advanced approach so to reduce the waiting time of patients. This is the major concern where this organisation lacking and ultimately degrading its reputation day by day.
Very bad about timing..... They don't have the specific things where we can easily know about the girls check up days and boys days!... Either ask someone who knows proper or come and waste your time. There is no specific mentioned dates in Google... Now a days Google is your best guide as such we can easily know about any thing from Google , but this is very bad where we seriously don't know "when will go ? Is this girls check up day? Or boys? "
I am fully dissatisfied

Best Place for all your skin and related issues and have a good legacy. But But but Takes you almost arround 3 hrs. Okay No worries. Now the worst part after spending that much time you will be prescribed by student and fellow and then they will say that piche road pe tram cross karke kisi bade dukaan se medicine lena(at back after crossing the street and tram line buy medicine from a renowned medical shop) Now the plus points are. Appointment will cost you only Rs 2. Try your best to get checked by professor or senior doctor. Otherwise you will keep on having visit and spending huge money on those medicine(arround 3k-5k/visit). For males Wednesday and Saturday. For females Monday and Thursdays.
I went there for Covid-19 test. I must say the officials and the health workers are polite and helpful. The Doctors check their patients with utmost care. The vicinity was clean and in the wake of Covid-19 pandemic, proper guidelines are being followed. I might've entered a government healthcare facility after 10 years and I must say I saw a change.
This is a famed hospital along with teaching (various clinical disciplines) facility having a rich legacy.
Easily accessible. Has a place for parking
The Best hospital for any skin related problems, Doctors are so good and their sujested medicines are the BEST, the medicines start working from the first day, Thank you
It's your luck , to get a good doctor. After waiting for 3-4 hours , one doctor checked me..for fungal infection he gives 4-5 medicine and said to go FRANKROSS to buy medicine. all the medicine are too much costly..for 30 days I have to buy minimum 5000 rs medicine. If govt hospital Dr behaves like private one .then where to go ?

first its a government hospital known for skin treatment speciality. but had bad experience. waiting period everyday is min 3 hrs to 4 hrs. and after waiting all those tedious hours an intern was checking without any senior doctor nearby and that also they do not listen to your problems in detail just look and chalk down loads of medicine(my one was costly with each sachet costing 600 bucks!!!) within 2-3 minutes. without any guidance from senior doctor if u do not get proper consultation after waiting 4 hours in line its really frustrating. like this doctor anybody can become.
