  Way over hyped. Expensive compared to the portion. You can have much better shaksuka for a lower price in many other places in the city.

  Terrible shakshuka and criminal experience at this tourist trap! Having read a number of travel guides recommending the restaurant, and having tried shakshuka at numerous restaurants across Israel, I was excited to have Dr. Shakshuka for my final meal in Israel. Upon arrival at the restaurant we were given a prix fixe menu for 130 NIS. This seemed exorbitant for shashuka so we asked for an a la carte menu which the waiter at first refused to provide claiming there was no other menu.
  
  He finally relented and brought us the a la carte menu. We then ordered shakshuka and tap water. The waiter then pretended not to understand "tap water," and then claimed they did not have any and that he could only bring us bottled water. This is a disturbing claim as without tap water I dont know how the restaurant washes dishes.
  
  When the shashuka finally arrived it was tasteless and oily with undercooked eggs and served with stale pita. The stale pita was obviously a "tax" for having asked for tap water as other tables in the restaurant were given fresh bread to accompany their meals. The icing on the cake of this disappointing and angering meal was the 12% service charge added to our bill, written in Hebrew and made to look like it was a VAT. When I asked the waiter what the charge was for, he advised it was a service fee. I told him I refused to pay a service fee since I was already paying for bottled water, as I had been given stale pita instead of fresh bread, that my eggs were undercooked and that my shakshuka was tasteless and oily. The waiter then grabbed my husband and my unfinished bottles of water and violently threw them in the garbage.
  
  There are many other places to have substantially more delicious shakshuka in Israel without being abused or taken advantage of by the waiters. I strongly recommend finding your shakshuka elsewhere!
