I must admit that I was more than a little bit surprised to learn that a small town such as Trim had a cathedral. St. Patrick’s Cathedral in Trim was built in 1803 on an historic site boasting a 15th-century stone tower. Although bishops have been enthroned here since 1536, it was it did not gain full Cathedral status until 1955 which is more recent than I would have expected.

The church is located on Loman Street on the north side of the town, is reputed to be the oldest Anglican Church in Ireland ( Note: I have been advised that a church in Armagh claims to pre-date it by twenty years but I have not received any supporting evidence). The original church lies in ruins behind the current newer church which faces onto Loman Street from behind a large boundary wall.

Some of my photographs included here are rather old because I could not gain access when I last visited Trim.
